Miranda IM lacks the slick design of most IM programs, but makes up for it by supporting most IM programs in one fully customizable package. It's easy to add your various IM accounts--including AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and MSN--and you'll have the same icons and status messages for each program. You can even manage the personal information for all your accounts from one central control panel.
Miranda IM's plain, gray instant-messaging window offers just the basics for typing and viewing messages; you won't find the text formatting options, emoticons, or links that a program like Yahoo Messenger offers. You will find numerous options to customize how chat or IM windows behave, including a handy option to have messages from a specific person always appear in the same location on your screen. You also can assign hot keys for a few actions like opening the program or reading a message.
Miranda IM is offered as freeware. You'll give up some of the unique features of your IM programs, but Miranda IM allows you to conveniently monitor and manage many of your chat and messaging programs in one place.

Version: Miranda IM (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista) 0.7
Pros: Miranda has few of those silly bells and whistles. Miranda is so very lite, easy, fast, and unobtrusive. Some of us don't have super ram and screen space which the others with all their bells and whistles so demand. Yahoo messenger is out of control. Next it will programed to vacuum your carpet.

Version: Miranda IM (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista) 0.7
Pros: It maybe do not look so nice at the first glance but you can change everything in this little application. Give it some time and put some effort going through the menus and you see how cool this program is. I even changed the name of the application to yabadabadooo instead of Miranda hehe
Cons: It could have included some nicer background image as standard so it does not scare to many people. To be honest it could look much nicer with a simple change of background.

Version: Miranda IM (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista) 0.7
"i'm sure it's great, but . . ."
Pros: i was looking for a multi-platform chat application like trillian, because my trillian basic had some bugs i couldn't fix. miranda achieves more than 90% of that objective. but the 10% was enough for me to go back to trillian. (see my cons review)
HOWEVER, if you're a newbie in multi-platform chat applications, you should try out miranda.
Cons: 1. from trillian, all my personalized contact names were gone. (i hv over 100 contacts, so i was in no mood to personalize all them one by one again.)
2. from trillian, all my personalized groupings were gone or the contacts were in the wrong groups.
it took me a total of 5mins to decide to go back to trillian. (oh, and btw - i also tried Integrity messenger but cancelled the installation when it tried to install adware into my system.)
