CNET Editors' review
Miranda IM lacks the slick design of most IM programs, but makes up for it by supporting most IM programs in one fully customizable package. It's easy to add your various IM accounts--including AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and MSN--and you'll have the same icons and status messages for each program. You can even manage the personal information for all your accounts from one central control panel.
Miranda IM's plain, gray instant-messaging window offers just the basics for typing and viewing messages; you won't find the text formatting options, emoticons, or links that a program like Yahoo Messenger offers. You will find numerous options to customize how chat or IM windows behave, including a handy option to have messages from a specific person always appear in the same location on your screen. You also can assign hot keys for a few actions like opening the program or reading a message.
Miranda IM is offered as freeware. You'll give up some of the unique features of your IM programs, but Miranda IM allows you to conveniently monitor and manage many of your chat and messaging programs in one place.

"Better off with digsby"
Version: Miranda IM (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7) 0.8.10
Pros
The program does what it says it will.
Cons
Setup is not easy, nor is it intuitive.
It's really a third place contender in the specific game it's playing, try Digsby or Trillian for a better experience.Summary
After much trial and tribulation trying every multi-protocol IM client on the net, the suggestion I have for the person looking for one is to try out Digsby. It's been winning a lot of awards lately, and it does exactly what you want this program to do, but it is new and goes through a lot of early stage development still. A close second place alternative would be Trillian, which has been around for ages. Trillian handles Twitter better. Both of the aforementioned handle many more protocols without need of plugins than Miranda does, forcing Miranda into third place, in my opinion, anyway.

"Amazing in every way."
Version: Miranda IM (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7) 0.8.10
Pros
Easy to setup
No-bloat program
Nice and simple to use
Extendable via plugins
Heavily customizable.
Dockable at the side of the screens.Cons
Lack of auto-login if disconnected. (or i certainly haven't found the plugin for it yet)
Summary
Shiny fans probably won't like this. (I am not one)
And there are no sounds setup at the start either, so you will need to install these and select them on your own.
There are plenty of sound packs on the website though.
Docking can be problematic occasionally with:
Fullscreen apps causing other windows to go behind it after exiting full screen
Dragging the window to make it larger causes it to jump around like crazy.
Miranda is still in beta, but it is updated quite frequently -
"not worth time"
Version: Miranda IM (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7) 0.8.10
Pros
pros? um installs quick?
Cons
Setup accounts is confusing not user friendly. Put account info in and nothing does not connect.
Summary
Stick with the original messengers such as yahoo aim icq msn, unless you dont care about using a webcam and other features. I yet to find a program that combines all services and still allows for webcam or voice features tyilion doesnt and neither does digsby.
