You don't have to practice feng shui or decorate your home in beaded curtains and lava lamps to enjoy this virtual sound effects program. Created by a classical musician and composer, MindChimes simulates chime sounds with wind patterns that are natural and believable. Nine chime sounds are available, from bells and crystal glass to bamboo. Most impressive is the fact that MindChimes' sound algorithm eschews looping, which creates a natural randomness that assures sounds will never play exactly the same way twice. For creative types, the Chime wizard lets you blend chime sounds using 10 octaves to create different moods and harmonies. The program's simple interface creates an intuitive environment in which to quickly start creating music with just one click. Occasionally we noticed that MindChimes would briefly stop making music when we closed certain application windows, but the music would quickly resume on its own. Overall, we found MindChimes to be a well-thought-out program and a refreshing alternative form of background music.Publisher's description

Version: MindChimes 4.0
"Works beautifully. A rich and relaxing sonic world."
Pros: This demo runs for seven minutes and then automatically quits. This is clearly stated in the product description, which the previous reviewer did not read.
The chimes are incredibly sophisticated; you can create any type of chime set, and even use a wizard to make perfect chime sets with one click! Then change mode, transpose, etc. There is a 10-octave piano keyboard that auto-plays while the chimes ring.

Version: MindChimes 4.0
"It is a simple yet beautiful product that does what it says it will do!"
Pros: The tones do not sound as if they are computer generated. I like that I can utilize the same genre at different intensities.
Cons: There is no identification setting/panel that allows me to repeat or change and return back to the previous intensity settings utilized.

Version: MindChimes 4.0
"Really like it. Very peaceful."
Pros: I think it sounds very realistic--there are quite a few tones to choose from as well as there being the possibility to change wind speed and gusty conditions. I, myself, prefer the low, wood tones to the tinkly, silver- ones, especially when I'm working on money matters. :-)

Version: MindChimes 4.0
"Interesting but not really pleasant and VERY unlike a real wind chime"
Pros: Nice to try, easy to purge from system.
Cons: Random tones, not particularly melodic or condusive to work with as a background sound. The word Cacaphony comes to mind.

Version: MindChimes 4.0
Summary: I tried using this littel program on my G3 and G4 machines running OSX 10.3.3 but it quits unexpectedly each time. Don't waste your time downloading this until the bugs are out.
