    "Great little application"

    October 31, 2005   |   By Nancyie

    Version: MenuTunes 1.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
MenuTunes is exactly what I was looking for and it works perfectly for my needs. I really wouldn't change a thing.

Some have complained about the fact that it is in the menu bar - I love having it there! Very convienient. Maybe giving more options in the preference pane would help satisfy some of the other "complaints".

In any case, it's a terrific app.

    "Not the best..."

    Version: MenuTunes 1.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
i've tried evey iTunes conroller I can find and Synergy beats them all including MenuTunes. What I prefer about Synergy:

    • I can position the floater anywhere I like instead of just a few pre-set positions as in MenuTunes
    • I have full control over the transparency of the floater instead of just 3 options (1 being opaque) in MenuTunes
    • I can set the floater to always be on; MenuTunes is limited to 10 seconds
    • MenuTunes does not offer any clickable controls -- you have to program system-wide hotkeys to control iTunes, something you can also do in Synergy
    • MenuTunes insists on putting its icon in the menu bar, something I personally hate -- Synergy lets you access its preferences through the System Preference; lets you turn off the control buttons in the menu bar; lets you have them turn on only when iTunes is running; and offers very small buttons and the easy ability to create your own
    • Finally, Synergy is $7 Canadian to MenuTunes $12.50
Even if you go with MenuTunes, take a moment to look at Synergy first, you might like it more.

    Great product!

It would be great to have the artwork display in the window appearing when changing tracks. Also submenus in the playlist menu item, but that will probably have to wait until iTunes itself has some sort of similar feature?

    Version: MenuTunes 1.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been waiting for this update. The controlling of a remote copy of iTunes means I no longer need to have iTunes running on my production machine, yet I can still listen and control my music! There are others out there that do a similar job to MenuTunes, some even free, but Menu Tunes is the only one that truly feels part of the OS. And with the newly added feature of remote server control I can ask for only one more thing (and it is not even that significant) Display the cover art for the currently playing song in the MenuTunes window.

The support for this product has been fantastic, a little slow to implement new features, but it was worth the wait.

If you are using the freeware software that does a lot of what this does, give this another look. Personally, I feel it is a superior product and worth the fee.

    "awesome"

    Version: MenuTunes 1.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
    Very cool!
I can't wait for the extra positioning (app says "coming soon") so maybe that's in a 1.5 realease?

Under the hot keys tab in the menu tunes prefs window could be a bit cleaner, but that's just UI. (some of the boxes are misaligned).

Feature request: Color hues for the status window. The standard gray is OK, but personal color prefs would be cool.

My favorite feature is that the status window is click through! I can see what song is playing without having to move the window out of my way. I can continue to type through it!

I rated all 5 stars except for features (which got a 4). Can't wait for future versions!

    Version: MenuTunes 1.0

    Summary

I'm having problems with the application (menu tunes) stalling.
I paid for it because I think its beautiful. album art does show up for songs that contain album art, such as music from the itunes music store.

The way the status window slides in and drifts out is beautiful! I can't wait to see new features like an automatic download of album art.
    is that possible?

The application is well worth my money so I bought it since it looks so nice.
But what have I paid for?
It can only get better because I'm disappointed with it crashing consistently within
    15 minutes of starting up.

Could it have something to do with my logitech elite keyboard?

    "Pretty nice"

    Version: MenuTunes 1.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I said I'd be back to give it a proper review, and here I am. I personally really like this thing. When I first read about it, I was doubtful that I'd use it all that much. After playing around with it for just a little while, I have to say that I was definitely way off. The window that comes up when a new song plays is worth the $10 to me. For someone who has several thousand MP3s, it's good to have, especially when I get adventurous and just put iTunes on random play. It's even given me a little bit more motivation to start getting all of those song properly labeled.

I haven't used Synergy or any of the others yet, so I think that I can't possibly give this a much more objective review. It's a quality little app, and definitely very useful. I seems unfair how some people are really coming down on this just because they already have an app that does what it does. It's a solid app, especially for a version 1.0.
