CNET Editors' review
Judging this freeware program by its name, you might think it's geared toward doctors and that it will read RSS feeds. You'd be disappointed on both counts. MedReader Physician Edition's simple interface lists your feeds in a tree directory and has a pane to search for feeds and a pane to view them. It only comes preset with access to the publisher's site, which pulls news from a variety of sources.
We tried adding feeds from numerous sites, but MedReader invariably didn't detect feeds on any of the sites we searched, even those on which you could see the orange XML icon prominently displayed. There's an option to manually add feeds, but the program failed to load a single one in our tests. It wouldn't even work on the links from the publisher's news page.
MedReader Physician Edition doesn't have a list of health-care-related sites, nor does it have any other features or functionality, so there's no reason for physicians to use this feed reader over any other. With so many effective RSS feed readers on the market, including other freeware options, the prognosis isn't good for this nonfunctioning freeware.
