Based on Internet Explorer's engine, Maxthon is probably something of a curiosity for most North American users. It never really caught on there, but elsewhere--especially China--it's one of the most popular browsers around. It renders pages fast and comes loaded with features, as if Firefox came with 90 percent of its most popular plug-ins. Maxthon 2 features loads more customization ability, but sacrifices a bit of stability for the privilege. Its design is stylish compared to the old version, and its new approach to accessing functions makes this free browser more competitive.
All the basics are represented here, from tabbed browsing to skins to add-ons, and many of the rolled-in features make Maxthon hard to ignore. Some of our favorite features include rolled-in auto-form filling, the ability to set up bookmark groups that open on start-up--excellent for news or blogs, the ability to autoscroll Web pages, and pop-up and content filters for blocking ads and specific content formats you don't want. There are also customizable hotkey commands for such nifty features as auto-completing URLs, so if you type "download" and hold down the Ctrl key, it will auto-fill the "http://" and the ".com". The online favorites service is similar to that offered by other browsers, and works well.
We also like the super drag-and-drop feature, which lets you directly select and drag keywords to a current Web page or directly to the address bar. Maxthon is fast, small, flexible, and easy to use, and the extra features make it a browser we highly recommend for those looking for a change of pace.

Version: Maxthon 2.1.2.649
Pros: Don't make the mistake of thinking of this as just another Internet Explorer shell. Maxthon uses the Trident rendering engine embedded in Windows, as does IE, but it's an entirely different UI. Using Trident, almost all web pages will render as their designers intended. Many of the features included as standard in Maxthon are only obtainable as extensions in Firefox 3.0, if at all, and this goes for security features as well.
Cons: Very little to dislike. A proper English help file would be good, however, rather than just an online community FAQ. Experienced browser users will find Maxthon intuitive enough, but novices may need more introduction than the (excellent as far as it goes) post-installation walk-though.

Version: Maxthon 2.1.2.649
Pros: Really great browser, with lots of advanced features. Really fast, stable, great security ad-ons. I consider Maxthon tops with Firefox and Flock and Avant. The auto-ad-on features are way more advanced than Firefox or Flock for sure, and not needing restart for any of them to be integrated - awesome! Most definitely recommended.
Cons: better selection of skins with be good.

Version: Maxthon 2.1.2.649
Pros: Is very simple to use but has lots of great features I haven't seen in any other web browser. Something I love is the Split View option you get by clicking the button to the left of the url bar by default. It allows you to see multiple tabs at once. Everything in the browser can be changed, there's tons of ways to have it set-up with the classic "handlebars" represented by a series of dots. The built in ad-blocker works great.
Cons: It's clear disadvantages are the lack of an automatic spell-check that multiple other browsers have created. It does have one, but you have to select the text you want to spell-check, right click on the selected text and chose "spell-check", which will open the spell-check in a pop-up window.
Also just little other things that annoy me from the switch over from differing web browsers (I'm a bit crazy with web browsers, I have I think 12 on my pc now) is that you can't close a tab unless you selected tha tab already, which is something frustrating I remember from using Internet Explorer.

"Very good browser with nice login features."
Pros: Logs in to American Express and Hilliard Lyons sites.
Fills login blanks (if enabled); like Firefox without secure login ad-on.
Cannot login to Excite. Same as IE7 problem.
Cons: Seems to have trouble logging in to download.com.
