A browser based on the Internet Explorer engine, Maxthon is probably something of a curiosity for most North American users. It never really caught on there, but elsewhere--especially China--it's one of the most popular browsers around. It renders pages fast and comes loaded with features, as if Firefox came with 90 percent of its most popular plug-ins.
All the basics are represented here, from tabbed browsing to skins to add-ons, and many of the rolled-in features make Maxthon hard to ignore. Some of our favorite features include rolled-in auto-form filling, the ability to set up bookmark groups that open on start-up--excellent for news or blogs, the ability to autoscroll Web pages, and pop-up and content filters for blocking ads and specific content formats you don't want. There are also customizable hotkey commands for such nifty features as auto-completing URLs, so if you type "download" and hold down the Ctrl key, it will auto-fill the "http://" and the ".com".
We also like the super drag-and-drop feature, which lets you directly select and drag keywords to a current Web page or directly to the address bar. Maxthon is fast, small, flexible, and easy to use, and the extra features make it a browser we highly recommend. This version, Classic, differs from the newer Maxthon in several ways--notably by being more stable and less customizable.

Version: Maxthon (formerly MyIE2) 1.1.120
Pros: Perfect tabbed browsing, lots of nice skins, displays all pages properly, able to delete cache on exit, mouse gestures, highly configurable. Firefox isn't as security tight as you all may think with newly discovered flaws found. My 4 fave browsers in order 1) Maxthon 2) IE 6 3) Opera 8 Beta 4) Slim Browser. Maxthon is the only browser than i can configure to almost exactly the way i want it.
Cons: There's a bug in this. When browsing certain pages my IE 6 suddenly opens up and opens about 80 blank windows which doesn't happen with any other browser, i also have no spyware or viruses. The pop-up blocker and ad hunter are still in my opinion 'shakey' but what pop-up blocker isn't?

"not as good as it used to be..."
Pros: functionality wise, Maxthon runs circles around its compition... flash save is awesome.

Version: Maxthon (formerly MyIE2) 1.1.120
"Also uses Gecko rendering engine"
Pros: Right-click on the new window icon (should be left of the page back icon) and select the last entry in the menu! Why use FF at all!
Automatically alters security settings so that all but the most stubborn (Microsoft Update) pages load safely even if some rouge pop-up or program calls up IE.
Has a familiar feel right off the bat (unlike FF) and the most powerful and coolest tools and features are easily accessable from the menus.
Great downloadable skins!
Cons: Sometimes hangs and/or crashes for no reason (Seems to have been fixed though --I had no problems since last update 1.1.115)
Default downloader even more anemic than FF's.

"Maxthon saved my sanity with its tabbed viewing"
Pros: Since I develop Web pages for a clientele enmeshed in IE, I need to see how the pages display in IE. Maxthon renders like IE but lets me press Control N to get a new tab rather than opening another window to see another page. This convenience cannot be overstated. Way to go!
