- Version reviewed: Maxa-Lock SE STD 3
Maxa-Lock SE STD aims to prevent outsiders from accessing your computer. Unfortunately, it was one problem after the other with this program.
Before you can get started, you have to register for an activation code using your e-mail address. It took a few hours for us to receive our activation code, which was aggravating to say the least. The interface is separated into three categories: general, interface, and intruder alert options. Under the general category, you have the option of automatically starting the program at Windows start-up, setting hot key combos for locking your PC and desktop icons, and setting a timer to lock your PC after a period of inactivity. On first run, we set the program to lock our computer after one minute of inactivity. Instead of locking, the program tried to install itself again. The same problem occurred when we tried to lock our computer using a hot key combo. We were able to hide our desktop icons without any problems.
Though we were able to send alerts to our e-mail address, a trial restriction prevented us from accessing the Skype and camera settings. This program was a pain to operate. With all of the issues we encountered, we recommend you keep looking for a better privacy tool.
