Say you use both ICQ and Camfrog for video chat, and you'd like to keep both open at the same time. That doesn't sound like an unreasonable request, but your Webcam may feel differently about it. Don't argue with it; download ManyCam. This free app replicates your camera signal and feeds it to any and all of your video chat apps simultaneously. It starts automatically with your Webcam when you start your chat app, and it feeds streams to new apps as you open them. No more conflicts, at least with your Webcam (your cranky uncle is your problem). ManyCam works with most clients.
ManyCam is mostly automatic in setup; we knew the program was configured when we saw our Webcam feed in ManyCam's Live Studio Mode display. ManyCam's user interface is anchored by a Firefox-style start button that opens an extensive main menu (including Help file) plus a tabbed toolbar with entries for Video, Audio, and more. Under the Audio and Video tabs we found submenus for configuring Effects and Sources as well as extras such as playlists, text over video, draw over video, and camera and screen effects. ManyCam does more than replicate your video stream: it also includes lots of great audio and video effects that you can apply, such as ridiculously addictive cartoon eyes in the Face Accessories as well as Objects, Filters, and Background Effects like flames. A series of thumbnail previews help you choose effects. ManyCam's integrated Image Settings use sliders to adjust color balance.
We clicked Sources to configure ManyCam with our chat apps. The program correctly identified our camera's specs, but we could change it to other sources, such as Movies, Still Images, and even our Desktop. Changing sources is easy; for example, we quickly browsed to an image file and selected it as our source display -- a handy feature for voice chat since you can display a logo, playlist, and more when you can't use video (or prefer not to). Best of all, we could keep multiple chat apps up and running with our current feed. ManyCam handled it all and then some.

- It uninstalls fairly easily and doesn't leave much in the Registry to manually remove.
- Scanned negatively by ZoneAlarm for viruses and trojans.
- Was free.Cons
- Tries to install Ask.com toolbar (where the funding comes from maybe).
- Made a variety of attempts to access restricted areas of Windows. ZoneAlarm went nuts.
- Wanted to modify various files in the Windows directory.
- Needed a reboot of the PC to complete the installation.Summary
This may well be a hugely enjoyable application if you are happy to ignore suspicious behaviour warnings and give the installer carte blanche to do what it likes, and change what it likes. I do not. I install many utilities on a frequent basis and the quality of programming often shows at this stage.
Neat, compact and self-contained applications do not cause applications like ZoneAlarm to have kittens.
Note that I am *not* suggesting that this is malware of any kind. I am satisfied that is not the case. What I am saying is that the install process gave me no confidence whatsoever and raised far too many behaviour warnings. There is just no need for it.
Applications may be written that rely on an installed framework such as .Net or need a recent version of the Oracle JVM if written in Java. They should *not* busy themselves making all sorts of changes to the O/S directory files, no matter how benign.
So if you are happy to let an otherwise harmless and fun application mess with your operating system then ignore the installation warnings and fire away. Otherwise look elsewhere for a cleaner and more compact solution. Or write your own. ;-) -

When I ise it sometimes a popup for Youcam comes up for no reason.

Overall is's great for anyone that wants to troll people on chatroulette nice and easy, and isent that hard to switch webcams back if you don't like it.

Not able to enlarge the ManyCam window; cannot record your webcam offering with this software.
Summary
I had uploaded WebCamMax first and couldn't get it to work, so I downloaded ManyCam and have been well pleased. Not as many bells and whistles as WebCamMax, but more than enough for my needs. Haven't had a minute's worth of trouble with the program!
