Say you use both ICQ and Camfrog for video chat, and you'd like to keep both open at the same time. That doesn't sound like an unreasonable request, but your Webcam may feel differently about it. Don't argue with it; download ManyCam. This free app replicates your camera signal and feeds it to any and all of your video chat apps simultaneously. It starts automatically with your Webcam when you start your chat app, and it feeds streams to new apps as you open them. No more conflicts, at least with your Webcam (your cranky uncle is your problem). ManyCam works with most clients.
ManyCam is mostly automatic in setup; we knew the program was configured when we saw our Webcam feed in ManyCam's Live Studio Mode display. ManyCam's user interface is anchored by a Firefox-style start button that opens an extensive main menu (including Help file) plus a tabbed toolbar with entries for Video, Audio, and more. Under the Audio and Video tabs we found submenus for configuring Effects and Sources as well as extras such as playlists, text over video, draw over video, and camera and screen effects. ManyCam does more than replicate your video stream: it also includes lots of great audio and video effects that you can apply, such as ridiculously addictive cartoon eyes in the Face Accessories as well as Objects, Filters, and Background Effects like flames. A series of thumbnail previews help you choose effects. ManyCam's integrated Image Settings use sliders to adjust color balance.
We clicked Sources to configure ManyCam with our chat apps. The program correctly identified our camera's specs, but we could change it to other sources, such as Movies, Still Images, and even our Desktop. Changing sources is easy; for example, we quickly browsed to an image file and selected it as our source display -- a handy feature for voice chat since you can display a logo, playlist, and more when you can't use video (or prefer not to). Best of all, we could keep multiple chat apps up and running with our current feed. ManyCam handled it all and then some.

"Incredible, yet laggy"

Pros
Incredible features, should be worth $300 yet it's absolutely FREE!$! Great for capturing How-To videos using your desktop. Gives you the features of a pro! It's also great for broadcasting video of your desktop... to a certain point. Best I've seen!

Horrible lag. I've tried to broadcast a live stream of the game Halo CE, and at first i thought it was the stream, now i find that it was ManyCam. It would be good for simple desktop shots, but it was died on gaming. Could be much better on that.
Summary
After using this product for a multiple hour broadcast of multiplayer Halo CE, i have found that it is horrible on the latency. Other than that, it is amazing that there is an application as great as this available for free. Any improvement suggestions would be to reduce lag by, ALOT, and to have the abillity to select one program, and use THAT as the stream, instead of just certain sections of that screen. Another suggestion would be to include special key-commands so that, when playing a game, you can enter a certain key-command and make it display "Be Right Back" on the screen and/or any extra stuff. Also, be able to send it to a blank image, that would be nice. Bottom line: Just get it, it's free, and it's worth it.

The background choices were fun. The avatars are interesting.

Could not get it to load backgrounds downloaded from the website. Whenever I clicked on a chosen background, it would only let me take a picture of the background behind me. It is useless as my webcam does same. Didn't need another program running.

I really liked the effects and the options it has. You can use different sources, not just the webcam. Very impressive.

Really easy to use, heaps of downloads from the ManyCam site, you can even add your own backgrounds and effects. And all round fun and useful progam.
Cons
None at all except maybe a voice cloaker would be a good addition to the program, If kids are going to use it for gaming (just a suggestion) :)

Adds a lot more features to my webcam. You can zoom in and out, change the resolution, you could also use it to show your desktop, or put up a picture or video. If combined with a webcam capturing software it can be used to capture video.
Cons
It sometimes freezes, though rare, it can be fixed by exiting manycam and restarting it. This could also be considered a pro, because if the webcam froze, you can't just close the webcam and start it up again.
Summary
If you want to add a bunch of features to your webcam, this is the perfect thing. It can be used to cover your face if you don't want people to know what you look like and you can customize it a lot.
