This e-mail application aims to stop spam by letting you bounce e-mails from your POP3 server before you download them, fooling spammers into thinking your address isn't valid. You can add bounced senders to a personal blacklist that will bounce all future attempts automatically. If the spammer uses a program that purges bounced addresses, over time this should get your address off the list. Hotmail access is available only in the Pro edition of MailWasher, as is protection of multiple accounts. MailWasher Free works best for people with a single POP3 account, or as an extended demo for those who are considering buying the Pro version.Publisher's description
From Firetrust :MailWasher is a program to help you get rid of spam and viruses in your e-mail. MailWasher allows you to preview all aspects of your e-mail on the server before you download it to your computer, thus protecting you from spam, viruses, phishing attacks, and other nuisances. You can then delete unwanted e-mail before it gets to you. Other features help identify and protect you against viruses and worms. Included are comprehensive antispam tools and many other features. Free version supports single e-mail account, and has no auto delete feature, and no user support.

"Good concept but not intergrated with mail programs"
Pros: I like the concept of filtering junk, spam before it's downloaded.
Cons: Interfaced not integrated with mail programs. Not user friendly.
Summary: Too hard to use. I've uninstalled and gone on to something easier (integrated) to use.

"A necessary application. I would not be without it."
Pros: It learns what you consider spam and automatically deletes it.
Cons: It keeps improving...wish it would stay spam or good, not keep asking on some emails.
Summary: Saves a lot of time since I seem to get around 125 emails per day.

Pros: Easy to download and set up
Cons: For some reason it thinks outlook is my mail program and I can not convince it otherwise even though I have never used outlook! A minor inconvience.

"Works great, very very easy to use!"
Pros: Install seamlessly, no setup for user, easy to use even dummies like me can use it within 2 minutes of download. Would highly recommend.
Cons: It does involve an extra step when getting email but it's easy and quick and not much of a negative.
Summary: My email had gotten to where I was getting about 100 emails per day only 10 of which would be valid. After weekends or vacation it was a total pain. I've only been using this for a few days but it cuts down on what actually gets to my email inbox ... read more >>

"Capable, but not sophisticated enough."
Pros: No pros to think of except it's free. It does work by adding a layer between your email app and the email server. Compatible with some common email apps.
Cons: I would of liked to have seen it available as a plug-in with better filtering rules. The ones included are too basic for my use(s).
Summary: It lasted about 3 days om my system as I found it no better or worse than the one provided for me in Thunderbird. I was looking for something more sophisticated and this wasn't it. If you just want a spam filter then this is ok.
