Publisher's Description
From Logan Rockmore Design:
Mail Unread Menu is a simple menu bar application which can provide you with a quick and easy way to see how many unread email messages are in Apple's Mail. Unlike other menu bar notification applications, Mail Unread Menu is actually a plugin for Mail.app, which means that the count is instantaneously updated whenever you receive new email or change the status of a message.
What's new in this version:
- Fixed an issue that would cause Mail to hang when there are a large number of emails in the Inbox.
- Fixed a potential crash when updating the count.

"perfect little app!"
Version: Mail Unread Menu 3.2.4
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
have been using this for a long time; glad the developer is on the case! 10.6.4 came out last night, and today there's an updated mailunread for the updated OS.
works great, gives me the info i want (as my dock is hidden).
recommended! -
"Love seeing email status in Finder menu bar ."
Version: Mail Unread Menu 3.2.3
Pros
Takes little space, is very clear and has what I need. Especially useful for those who hide their docks and want immediate detailed email status.
Cons
Still seems to have some small incompatibility with Snow Leopard when re-booting but a mouse click resolves this.

"Shwing please!"
Version: Mail Unread Menu 3.2.1

Occasional crash when changing preferences in Snow Leopard. The notification is not immediate.
Feature Request: Option to set a sound clip for notification (e.g. 'shwing!') -
"slows mail.app to a crawl with 10.5.4"
Version: Mail Unread Menu 3.1.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
dunno if it's 10.5.4 version of the OS specifically but i do know that mail on my macbook pro was super sluggish for the past 2 weeks - processor running really high, beachball, etc. as a test i uninstalled mail unread menu (removed the app, the pref file, mail bundle and another file - be sure to remove all 4) and sure enough, mail became very responsive again immediately.
it's a shame because this is really handy on a laptop where you're hiding the dock and can't see mail's dock notification icon.. oh well. -
"3.0 breaks under 10.4.11"
Version: Mail Unread Menu 3.0

Love the new interface etc - but this won't do the one thing it has to in Tiger - report the arrival of new mail - have reverted to 2.6. -
"A great little gem"

This is one of those great little gems that once, you start using it, you can't live without.
Love it. -
"Exactly what I wanted"
Version: Mail Unread Menu 2.2
Summary

Very useful. Seeing if there was any unread mail was the only reaqson for me to keep the dock visible. I also like the option of turning the menu icon off, -
"Nice touch to menu bar"
Version: Mail Unread Menu 2.1.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This program is a nice feature for me, as I keep my dock hidden and use the mouse scroll button (one click) to open my mail program. Now I can see in the menu bar if there is new mail, click the scroll button on the mouse, and read my new mail. Also love the new filter feature in this version - thanks. -
"works great"
Version: Mail Unread Menu 2.0.3
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
works great for me. I've used the last couple of versions and find it very helpful. I keep the dock retracted and apple mail hidden and rely on 'mail unread' and it works just fine all the time. never a hitch. I have no idea what the last guy is talking about. -
"installed - used - experienced - trashed"
Version: Mail Unread Menu 2.0.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
thought that might be handy
but no, for 2 reasons
-- it does count mail in all mailboxes, including junk (!) which results in thousands of unread emails => completely useless
-- it prevents me from quitting mail, because it seems causes mail to (re)start everytime I quit mail. and I *do* need a break from email, sometimes
this might be my settup or whatever, but I trashed MailUnreadMenu after a few hours of using it.
OS X 10.4.8, mail.app 2.1 (752/752.2), other bundles: AttachmentScannerPlugin, DayLiteIntegration, GPGMail, MailActOn, MailFollowup
