Version: MagicDisc 2.5.71
"The best FREE virtual CD software..."
Pros: Well I have already downloaded some other free programs for mounting CD images and most of them are full of bugs. After some hours of searching for a good free Virtual CD clone I founded MagicDisk.
I installed this program on the following computers:
- one with Windows XP (SP2)
- another running Windows 2000 (with latest updates)
Everything is ok at least when mounting ISO CD images. I noticed only some minor problems on Windows 2000 with the program system tray menu (when you acces the menu sometimes the menu remain opened even if you click outside the menu and the only trick to close the menu was to select something from the menu ... for examble About...). Until now this is the only disturbing "feature" I found.
So ... because this is the best FREE virtual CD software, I can't recommend this product highly enough !
Cons: The problem with the system tray menu on Windows 2000...

Version: MagicDisc 2.5.71
Pros: I was able to create a virtual CD for my daughters fashion show program so it no longer requires putting the CD in the CD drive. She reports that the program loads faster and runs much smoother. This is why I installed MagicDisc and it did the job... Fairly easy to use. My system is running XP Home Edition. I encountered no problems with installation.
Cons: Not a lot of detailed instructions for accomplishing tasks at the help site. You have to figure things out for yourself. I never could get the main program screen (pictured in Screenshots) to come up. When I clicked on the desktop shortcut, it put an icon in my system tray but the main program screen never materialized. I had to do everything from the right-click menu of the system tray icon. Re-installed but that didn't help.

"Completely crashed WinXP Pro"
Pros: No pros, it never worked.
Cons: After installation Windows reported it found a new cd-rom. Then it completely hung, I could only shutdown by using the powerbutton on the computer. Normal rebooting didn't work, like jyhjian I too had to use the Last Known Good boot option to recover.

Version: MagicDisc 2.5.71
"OK on Win2000, broken on WinXP"
Pros: Installed and worked as advertised on Win2000 Pro.
Ability to directly create an ISO image from a CD-ROM; very good feature!
Cons: Running WinXP Pro. Installation got hung shortly after the new virtual CD was detected. The installation never quite finished, and system was running at a crawl. Rebooting didn't help. Had to reboot to Last Known Good Config (F5) to get the system back to normal.
If using WinXP, wait for the next release.
