MP3 to Wave Maker Plus 2.8

This supersimple audio program does what it promises, but versatility is not its strong suit. MP3 to Wave Maker Plus converts WAV files to compressed MP3s and vice versa. However, we're not sure why both functions aren't available from the same interface; there's no need for two separate icons and windows. If you're turning WAVs into MP3s, you can select the audio quality, but you won't find any extra features or support for additional audio codecs. In our tests, conversions went quickly and smoothly, and the 40-use trial should be sufficient to decide whether this utility is worth its $20 registration fee. But since many free programs and jukeboxes do the same thing as this app, we're somewhat skeptical that the vast majority of users won't look to the competition first.

This WAV to MP3 encoder and MP3 to WAV decoder starts the conversion process with a simple right click. Select the MP3 or WAV file with the mouse and right-click on a selected file. A menu will appear, select Decode to WAV(s) or Encode to MP3(s) and the conversion will start. The program allows batch conversion of WAVs to MP3s. It has a drag-and-drop interface and features support for Winamp and Sonique playlists.

Version 2.8 adds Windows Vista support.
