"NAVI PROMO J SPYWARE DETECTED"
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
Did not install. See below
Cons
I did not install due to the fact the my Antivirus detected potential Adware/Spyware/Virus Be Careful!
Summary
I first downloaded this program file from the developer website, scanned before installing and Avira notified me of potential threat - so I quarantined. Then I downloaded from Cnet because they are more trustworthy, but same thing happened. Looked up definition and could not find instructions on how to remove, so again I quarantined.

"Works well but installs Adware without informing you."
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
Works very well even after you have removed the adware.
Cons
Installs an Adware Windows service called ReleventKnowledge without your knowledge, the process is RLSERVICE.EXE. You need to kill this and then use HijackThis to remove the NT Windows Service.
You can also run Services, msc and disable the service. Then manually delete the keys from teh registry.Summary
Works very well even after you have removed the adware.

"Easy to use. Works well."
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
Doesn't take much time to learn how to use it. Works great to record wahtever you are listening to.
Cons
It only works for MP3s, but that's all I needed it for.
Summary
I have had this device for some time and I loved how it worked. I somehow lost it and now for some reason, I can download the app. but I can't get the exe. file to run it. I also get some warning from Microsoft. Some people complained of malware. I didn't have that problem. I wish I could get it back.

"Does just what I want"
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
It does just what i want to do, just the way I want to do it, and does it well.
Cons
Nothing worth mentioning.

"Might not be easiest for non-geeky Vista users"
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
I've used this to document phone calls from landlords and conversations where I wanted to remember what was said. Turn on speaker phone and then record away. It will also record lectures from far away. Just turn recording volume level to high.
Cons
I had to play around with the parameters before it would work. I had a microphone installed that I was no longer using and I finally figured out that I needed to disable that and then it worked fine. I got an error about sound params.
Summary
I recommend it for those who know enough to figure out how to set up or change microphone and other computer settings.

"Outstanding end result"
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
Gives me the best recordings I have every had. After downloading music I used run it through MP3 Gain to remove clipping then recheck it in Audacity to check the sound wave. Now as long as the record level is kept in the right zone its always perfect
Cons
Just the muckn around with Vista. Have to right click the speaker volume icon the change recording device to Stereo Mix. If it wasn't for this I would give it 5 stars.
Summary
The key to making this work for you is keeping the record level in the perfect zone. Basically the meter should be always trying to go red but only just touching it on the odd occassion. If you run it red on every beat you will have a rubbish recording. MP3 gain can fix this but the soundwave has already been smashed to bits and wont be as good.
In my case I downloaded a codec update pack (simply not necessary. As a result I lost my Windows Moviemaker. When you have MP3 my MP3 back and any other new programs and all is working properly create a new restore point.
I alway use headphones (ear plugs) when recording and master volume set around 58-65 depending on the volume of the track i'm recording (I determine this by playing the track and watch the meter before I record). Please note the RECORDING VOLUME on the recorder is only set at 7/100. These settings give me the maximum listening volume (around 61/100) which is lower than my usual 85/100.
This does require patience, to listen to a track you just want to crank up at 61/100. But if you dollow this guideline you will get the perfect result everytime. I use Audacity to check the sound wave and can tell you for a fact that I have never had better recordings using any other method, including direct downloading which usaually has to be regained (MP3 gain) to remove clipping.

Let me know how you get on. If this doesn't work I have a plan b although System Restore is the best plan "A" -
"Easy to use, does what it says it will do."
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
Very simple to use and to set for recording, different options for splitting tracks, and detecting silence between tracks.
Cons
would like to have this with two left and right meters to balance sound better
Summary
This is one of the best FREE sound recorders cnet has here as I have just about tried all of them this one is very good with no issues downloading and installing, and was very easy to set up and start recording. And no issues with spyware or malware. And maybe one day they will have one or a updated version with left and right readouts for better balance recording.

"Didn't work for me"
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
Looks fancy
Cons
Didn't record anything, couldn't find audio card.
Summary
Didn't work. Looked around, found and am using Freecorder, the simplest, least number of choices to make program I've seen recently. Works perfectly for what I need.

"good controls, no malware detected"
Version: MP3 My MP3 Recorder 3.1
Pros
Silence detection, autoamtically stops recording and begins recording a new track upon silence. You can cofnigure the length of silence and the action to take.
Cons
feature set and configurability is limited.
Summary
Does exactly what I needed, recroding streaming music directly to MP3, starts new tracks automatically upon silence detection. High quality recordings
