Customize searches based on your exact location using this free Internet Explorer plug-in. Loki for Internet Explorer adds a slim toolbar that includes a search tool and a handful of buttons.
Just a click away are options to look up your current location, share it with others, and add sites you want to give your location. Remove the toolbar with a single click with a button we wish was standard for all such add-ons.
The Find Me button takes just a second to scan your longitude and latitude. If you're not happy with the results, you can easily enter your exact address. A pair of neat tricks instantly let others know your location as you use the SMS or E-mail buttons. The 150-character SMS tool automatically adds your location information, but can be easily edited.
The E-mail button requires some minor setup to choose from a drop-down menu of Web-based e-mails. Clicking the toolbar's e-mail button will then always open the e-mail's login Web page. Users choose from several search engines for the search tool with results based on your system's current location. It's a snap to add location-based requests to many other Web sites.
While Loki's Support Site was useful, we found the publisher's instant messenger based help quick and informative. Easy to operate, Loki for Internet Explorer's free toolbar helps any user narrow search results around a specific location. It's also almost automatic to keep friends and family informed of your location.
Publisher's description
From Skyhook Wireless :Loki is a location-based search and location-sharing browser toolbar. Leveraging Skyhook's Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) to automatically define a user's exact physical location, this customizable toolbar turns a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop into a 'virtual GPS' device and integrates location into your Internet search, browsing, and communications. You can customize Loki to find content that you are most interested in and with one click instantly find the nearest jazz club, directions to the best Thai restaurant, find the cheapest gas prices in town and pinpoint your exact location on a map. You can even share that location with others directly from the toolbar by email or SMS. Other features include a timezone adjuster that automatically updates your PC time based on the timezone you're currently in.
With version 2, you can implement Loki's positioning system with only a few lines of Javascript. Enhancing applications and Web sites with location awareness is now easier than ever.

Version: Loki for Internet Explorer 2
Cons: This silly program never could find me no matter how hard it tried. It kept telling me that I was nowhere in the USA or even in the world. That's funny since my I.P address, using I.P. Lookup, shows me in Nevada, about 2,700 miles from my exact location, but at least I exist and that's a plus but this software would be a waste of a download if you plan on using it with a GPS device.
