From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications. Version 4.0 further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better network performance.
On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses a few new features, such as a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now features a progress bar, and file information, such as artist and album, is more clearly displayed. Though the improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions, we didn't notice much improvement in download speed or file availability. We liked the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also was a nice touch.
The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire. Despite a few performance flaws, this new version offers a breath of fresh air in the P2P category.
Publisher's description
From LimeWire :LimeWire 4.8 detects UPnP-enabled (Universal Plug and Play) routers and automatically configures the router for optimal performance. LimeWire 4.8 also offers the ability to search for Creative Commons licensed files and to look up Creative Commons information if it is available on files. Licenses, once looked up, will be displayed in the library and search results. And of course, Lime Wire continues its guarantee of no adware and no spyware.
LimeWire is the world's fastest P2P file-sharing application, letting users share and search for all types of computer files, including movies, pictures, games, and text documents. The application's other features include dynamic querying, the ability to preview files while downloading, advanced techniques for locating rare files, and an extremely intuitive user interface.

Version: LimeWire 4.8
"It's illegal! Use something else"
Cons: The supreme court has ruled, so it's just a matter of time before this gets sued out of existence. You should use iTunes instead and buy tracks rather than steal them.

Version: LimeWire 4.8
Pros: I like limewire. It is easy to use and you get good hits with little effort. I will purchase the Pro version very shortly. My teenager enjoys it more than I do. If you have a Mac you will love the performance.
Cons: I had a hard time figuring out why it was not working at one point. I had to go to their support page and by the second day and about 35 minutes later I had it working. A couple of times after having the artist name and song title I could not download the songs but that may or may not be a limewire problem. I do not like the fact that it automatically loads on startup and everytime I unselect this function it still loads. Be careful the upgraded version does not include an unistall and I read something during the upgrade that said it could not be deleted off my computer.
