Letterbox is a plugin for Apple's Mail.app that takes advantage of your widescreen monitor. It rearranges the interface into three vertical columns �¢â?¬â?? so the message pane is to the right of the message list, rather than below.
What's new in this version: This release is compatible with today's 10.6.4 update, and has a few other minor updates. Notably, this fixes an issue in which Letterbox sometimes "forgot" the preview pane position after you closed the message viewer window. It also tweaks the two-line view, putting the sender in bold on the first line, resembling the iPhone and MobileMe views. (The issues with the two-line view and fonts other than Helvetica or Lucida Grande aren't yet fixed in this release, sorry).

"An essential and extremely useful app for Apple Mail."

Pros
Makes working with messages in Apple Mail so-o-o-o much easier. Easy to install. Does everything it promises. I can't figure out why Apple Mail doesn't include this feature to start with.

None that I have noticed and I have used this app through previous versions for several years now.

even on a 13" mbp. took me a little while to get used to it, now really like it.
using a very-narrow "from" window (just so i can see the name).

The only gripe I have with this great Mac mail plugin is the inability to keep custom pane size parameters.
When resize a pane and quite the mail app, the next time you open the app the panes revert back to their default sizes. -

Can't understand why Apple has not integrated the column-view into Mail, but I'm happy to use Letterbox and REALLY MISS IT NOW - since I upgraded to Snow Leopard...
Hope it will be available für SL soon... Would even PAY for it! Thanx for developing this app and keeping it free!
