Version: Lands of Hope 5
"An uptight crowd killed it for me"
Pros: Extremely fast level ups (what got me hooked), crafting, exploring, farming, tailoring your own clothes, gm actively participating ingame. Helpful community on a technical level.
Cons: It's dead. At the most 25 to 30 people logged on at one time.
Second, you're a face portrait fighting other portraits of cows, rats, horses, other animals, people, monsters, clicking tile after tile. Not exactly what you'd call exciting.
The community killed it. Sure, they answer technical questions on the spot (usually), but trying to get an in on a friendly level is out of the question.
Forget having a negative opinion about a specific job - my newfound friend was telling me that a "bard" was not cool, don't choose that profession, the regulars jumped on him like white on rice for "bashing" it. Then a MODERATOR took over asking him, then TELLING him, to quit it. Talk about ridiculous.
Next, newfound friend and I are the only ones chatting at around 4:30 am or so, out of nowhere a regular chimes to say "could you take it to private chat, I could have missed someone asking a question." We were the ONLY ones chatting for a good 10 minutes or so. Get a grip.
Finally, while chatting I get dc'd. Come to find out when you're "idle" for 20 minutes, game automatically disconnects you. But I wasn't idle, I was chatting with a friend ingame. I log in and say "I just got dc'd for being idle for 20 minutes, but I wasn't idle, I was chatting with someone, this is a bug!" The GM himself was there, and says, "you were idle, you weren't playing the game." I'm like, "I wasn't idle..I was chatting with a friend." In turn tells me that my chatting takes up valuable resources and that I wouldn't appreciate if people went AFK for hours on end, blah blah blah..I'm like, I didn't go afk, I was talking with a friend. Fell on deaf ears.
In summary, the community is way too uptight when it comes to their "precious" game. They moderate entirely too much. Not only that, you're constantly harassed to "vote" for the game so that it could go up in the ranks on mpogd.com. A game should go up the ranks on its own merit. I'm convinced they did the same thing here.
