This is easily one of the more useful freeware file encryption programs we've found, and the latest version fixes a few minor bugs. Kruptos 2's file menu and icon interface is the picture of simplicity. Encryption is almost effortless. You can drag and drop files to the Kruptos 2 window, and the latest version adds support for dragging and dropping folders.
The encryption algorithm is Blowfish 128-bit, and fast. A key feature obfuscates file names but leaves folder names unaltered. The program offers a feature to see original file names with the proper password, but it is invoked one file at a time. However, Windows integration means you can perform all functions from your context menu.
Unlike many similar programs, files in nested folders are all quickly encrypted as individual files. With a single click you can decrypt a file and edit it, and the file re-encrypts on close. Self-extracting encrypted files are created with a minimum of fuss. The Shred function deletes original files to DOD standards. The program does offer a nag screen for donations, but only once. Kruptos2, with all its features, is what every user needing simple file encryption desires.

Version: Kruptos 2 3.18
"integrates well with windows file explorer"
Pros: integrates well with windows file explorer, all i have to do is right click the file or folder for easy encryption and decryption. it's exactly what i was looking for, just to keep kids and nosey people from "accidentally" opening my files.
I love the speed, and really has no limitation on the number and size of files. I tested it on one of my photo albums and encrypted over 900+ photos quickly error free.
It doesn't hide the files/folders, or create another virtual drive, or delete the original file, or self destructs with the wrong password (which to me is overkill for my purposes). It can also create self extracting files for transport. This is just perfect. Thank you for making this free!
Oh you can also put in a password hint.
Cons: The interface and the icon for encrypted files could use a makeover, but since it's free, i'm not taking down a star.

Version: Kruptos 2 3.18
"Kryptos 3.0.0.16 Build 1.0.0.29 is the one I use and is Very good."
Pros: The program is well written and powerful but the feature I like is that once set, one has only to double click the encrypted file and then apply the password and Kryptos opens the file then when ready to quit the file it only requires that you close it and Kryptos does the rest and re-encrypts the file thereby making it fool proof as you do not have to remember to encrypt and close the program, it is done for you.
Cons: Nothing.

"Works Great. Leave extra time for large files."
Pros: Easily allows me to protect data, from single files to directories.
Cons: Remember to leave extra time when doing large files or directories, as it decrypts for use and encrypts after use. Lots of disk time used.
