"Still the best out there for Mac"
Version: KisMAC 0.3.3
Pros
Nice GUI
Multiple Attacks
Free
GPS
Export / Import PCAP
Export .KLM
Corelocation
MapCons
the cracking engine is getting old
No 802.11 n capabilitiesSummary
It's still an excellent prog. IF you have the basic knowledge.
When reading (here) that someone tried to crack his own WPA while capturing "packets" I am smiling ..
Nevertheless,
Capture, wardrive, play with KisMAC, Crack with Aircrack or Pyrit
It's faster.... -
"Works Great! But you have to know how to use, many dont"
Version: KisMAC 0.3
Pros
This is a great product, and works very well. Are there improvements and room for enhancements, sure! But that's true of nearly all software. Look at MS, they sell new software with fewer features, illogical, and it stinks, but kisMAC doesn't.
Cons
It would be nice to show the network frequency 2.4 or 5 GHz.
Summary
Show me a better product that does this on Mac, I really want to know, please, show me.

"not useful for macs without additional equipment"
Version: KisMAC 0.2.99
Pros
effectively scanned nearby routers and picked up their packets.
many tools for different types of security
relatively simple useCons
extremely slow if you are only using the Airport/Airport Extreme that comes built into your mac.
After collecting packets for two days couldn't crack my own WPA key.
Needs a way to filter bad packets.Summary
if you have a wireless connection without using Airport you may have more luck than I did, and it will take much less time. If you do have one then the forums say that it's possible to crack a key in under ten minutes, but even after collecting enough packets I still wasn't successful.

"Should not be listed here..."
Version: KisMAC r278
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
According to the developers, this is a development/beta version and they specifically request that it not be listed in VersionTracker/MacUpdate/etc.
Having used r273 flawlessly since it came out, I tried it immediately and found that on my MBP with 10.5.4, it crashed when trying to complete a scan, leaving the Airport Extreme driver in an inconsistent state that required a system reboot. Caveat emptor.
As is stated all over the product's page, this is not a toy and requires knowledge of how wireless network function in order to fully exploit its capabilities. There are plenty other free stumblers around for casual use. -

"Broken?"
Version: KisMAC 0.21a
Summary

Kismac has been a GREAT tool for years. In the last OSX patch (10.4.9 to 10.4.10) it has officially busted
"KisMAC is not able to load the Apple Airport driver, if you killed it by loading the Viha driver. Try restarting KisMAC." -
"FANTASTIC IMPROVEMENT!"
Version: KisMAC 0.21a
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
v 0.21 is a FANTASTIC IMPROVEMENT over what I was using before (v0.12)! Hardware other than the Airport _is_ needed for the more sophisticated functions, but whereas 0.12 hung my CPU at 100%, 0.21 is behaving quite nicely. I wish I'd downloaded it a long time ago! As was mentioned before, read the tips at https://trac.kismac.de/wiki/Troubleshooting%20AirPort%20Extreme and enjoy. -
"Best WiFi Sniffer - PERIOD"
Version: KisMAC R73p
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I love KisMAC. I use it every day. It is more feature rich and informative than any other WiFi sniffer on the market - and its FREE!
That said, I'd like to offer my complaints and suggestions. (The kismac trac wiki is difficult to navigate.) I hope the developers read this here.
There is no command key for "Start Scan". Let's face it, most of us are using this for WAR Driving and it is hard to click on that tiny little button while manuvering a motor vechicle through a neighborhood littered with trash cans and small children. What ever happened to "start scanning on launch"?
"Join Network" is a two-handed command key. Once again, I don't want to run over little Jimmy just because I'm lost and desperately need to connect to MapQuest.
And lastly, the installer has a bug: I keep KisMAC in a subdirectory of the Applications folder - "/Applications/Airport Utils". The installer correctly identifies this subdirectory and suggests installing there. It deletes the old copy of KisMAC, but then installs the new copy in the root of the hard drive. If you choose to install in the default "/Applications" location, it works correctly.
Hardly worth lowering my rating for so I still give KisMAC 5 stars - and I have all the other sniffer/stumblers on my machine. This one is the best!
