    Version: Keystroke Converter 4.687

    "excellent, does what it promises"

by panicola on February 9, 2005

Pros: I wanted something simple: move the backspace function to the +-key on the numeric keyboard, so I could flip backwards through my browser-pages just using my thumb without lifting my hand from the mouse. And that's just what it did. Simple and without hassle.

I'm going to think of more useful key functions to move.

Cons: So far I've just done the above. So I haven't come up with anything bad. What the previous reviewer says about crashes and stuff, this didn't happen with me.

If I come up with something negative, I'll repost.

"Keep your fingers away from those keys - you might get a stroke."

by kjpweb on February 8, 2005

Pros: The only good point would be the idea itsself...

Cons: Do not install, do not test.

For one - it shut's down your system - without a warning.

Secondly - it keeps doing that - just as a benefit to having started.

Thirdly - since I'm not in the mood to have my system shut down AGAIN - I can't really be sure - but it seems to also mess with my wireless network connection.

And don't forget the program itself.

Though the concept is good - the performance beside the issues already mentioned is poor.

Beginning with an amateurish interface, that appears to be version 0.6 rather then a well aged 4.6. It offers awkward colors and Visual basic style beginners placement of buttons. A shaky animation rounds up visual effects - that don't provide a well rounded interface.

But then the functionality. Though easy to understand - I had my first attempts to re-program keys done very quickly, when to my dismay even simple and basic Windows functions didn't work.

Mute the main Volume for example.

And it's not really true, to say that it didn't work. It just didn't work, where it needed to.

It muted mighty fine, when you had the audio controls open. But that would be like ordering pizza for home delivery - and then drive to your Pizza Place to pick it up.

But when they were closed - neither the mute, nor the in/decrease of volume did show any effect.

Thus ended my attempt and my desire to test any further.

And - since I had the opportunity to test the registered version - why for crying out loud are there still two mighty loud buttons, shouting BUY NOW?

    That's pretty annoying.

Bottomline - Stay away and wait for professionals to take on the topic of reprogramming your keyboard.
