- Version reviewed: Keylogger Spy 7.1
Your concerns about unauthorized system use are minor compared with using this too obvious keylogging utility. Keylogger Spy's prime interface is merely a dialog box with options to start and stop spying. The too-short help file gives little program explanation, misidentifies the location of the log file, misnames the program executable, and adds a short explanation how to alter the default directory in the config file.
Starting Keylogger Spy caused warnings from security programs, with a recommendation to immediately remove the program. For the brave testers who had to continue on, the experience wasn't positive. As expected with a keylogger, the application immediately starts collecting keyboard presses without notifying users. However, nearly any action caused a program purchase nag screen to appear. That's certainly not expected from a stealth keylogger; though the publisher promises the prompt screen disappears after program purchase.
As is customary, neither the keylogger start application nor the monitoring program appears in Add/Remove Programs or in the Applications tab of Task Manager. However, Keylogger Spy was easily found and disabled through the Task Manager. A keylogger that is so easily discovered is of no use. We suggest you find another program to monitor user activity.
