Editors' review

This free utility stores all your passwords in one database encrypted with the AES or Twofish algorithm. KeePass allows you to use strong, hack-proof passwords without hindering your PC's performance. For this purpose, the program provides a built-in password generator. The application boasts a number of features that help enforce protection of your data. For example, it can automatically lock a minimized database, empty the clipboard from time to time, and set an expiration date for each password. We found KeePass quite handy, as it lets you arrange your passwords into any number of groups and subgroups. Besides a login and a password, each entry may contain notes, attached files, and associated URLs. Unfortunately, KeePass can't automatically fill in Web forms, and the help file is inadequate. Also, since KeePass doesn't let you add or modify database fields, it will only work for storing passwords. Nevertheless, it does that job exceedingly well.

    "Fantastic Free Password Manager Software"

    May 05, 2010   |   By Witchdoctor13

Version: KeePass Password Safe 2.06 Beta

    Pros

I looked for a product to sync with my Android HTC Hero so I could have a password manager on my PC and phone. I found two that cost over $30.00 that compared to Keepass. This price is definitely better!

    Cons

Bit of a learning curve to sync the PC with phone. Could not find my help online. You can sync by exporting the "KeePass.kdb" file to the Hero's SD card. After I figured that out, I found the product very easy to use.

    Summary

I love this product. I typed in all my passwords on the Desktop (mush easier than entering into the phone manually), and then sync'd. My passwords were transferred seamlessly. Data entry interface is intuitive and simple. Can make separate folders for internet, email, home banking, etc. You can set expire dates for passwords. Sort by name, password, notes, etc. Duplicate entries and copy them to separate folders. Can auto-generate passwords. Great tool!
