This free utility stores all your passwords in one database encrypted with the AES or Twofish algorithm. KeePass allows you to use strong, hack-proof passwords without hindering your PC's performance. For this purpose, the program provides a built-in password generator. The application boasts a number of features that help enforce protection of your data. For example, it can automatically lock a minimized database, empty the clipboard from time to time, and set an expiration date for each password. We found KeePass quite handy, as it lets you arrange your passwords into any number of groups and subgroups. Besides a login and a password, each entry may contain notes, attached files, and associated URLs. Unfortunately, KeePass can't automatically fill in Web forms, and the help file is inadequate. Also, since KeePass doesn't let you add or modify database fields, it will only work for storing passwords. Nevertheless, it does that job exceedingly well.

"Excellent and easy to use"

May 28, 2009  |  By ikeeptime

 |  Version: KeePass Password Safe 1.11

Pros

User interface is very logical, quick to learn. I had been putting off the chore of changing passwords among the websites I use (I had the same one for 16 of those sites-I know, very stupid) So this utility enabled me to improve internet security.

Cons

None, very satisfied

Summary

Dont overlook the plug-ins once you have this thing installed. I went to Sourceforge.net to get their KeeForm plug in so that with one click on any website's link (that you have entered into the KeePass window) something majic happens. The plug in opens the sites log-on page and automatically enters your user name and password for you and ZIP WHAMO! you are logged on with one click. THIS is exactly what I was looking for. Of course you can also drag and drop that info from KeePass to the website's User and Password fields to get the same result. I have KeePass loaded onto a thumb drive so when I am out of town It is a snap to access it's info with any computer. One of the best free utilities I have used. Great features in a streamlined package. Thanks Dominick. You are a friggin genius.

NONE! It just couldn't be much better.

Summary

Just had no problems and use it all the time.

"A great product ! Version 1.15 now released!"

March 25, 2009  |  By Herbie2069

 |  Version: KeePass Password Safe 1.11

Pros

Ease of use
Open source software
Compatible to use with data files created with older versions of KeyPass

Cons

No cons at this stage

Summary

I was using version 1.08 for my pocketPC and found it extremely useful for storing all my passwords and other important data in encrypted format. I recently sold my pocketpc so downloaded the data onto my laptop. I searched for the Windows version and to my surprise found the data file was compatible with version 1.11. I have now upgraded to 1.15 and have been very impressed that no data conversion was required for my original data file created under version 1.08.

"Works fine"

March 23, 2009  |  By litmanovich

 |  Version: KeePass Password Safe 1.11

Pros

Clear interface, nice features, customizations

Cons

I miss the possibility of specifying a non-default browser to open URL.

Summary

A nice product I really enjoy. My wish list for future versions - I'd like the application to have an option to specify the browser in which URL will be opened. Ideally the browser would be set per entry (i.e. I'd like to open my bank account in Internet Explorer and my eMail in Firefox).

"Simple - but 100% reliable, secure, and FREE."

January 14, 2009  |  By PRocky

 |  Version: KeePass Password Safe 1.11

Pros

I've been using KeePass for about 5 years. I've installed it on all my PCs, and for many other people, as well. It's dead simple, and 100% reliable. The database is very easy to back up to an external drive and has never failed or become corrupted.

Cons

Funtionality is limited to entering username password for non-network logins with simple, unprotected "Username: " and "Password: " fields (about 75% of my needs). Databases can only be updated manually; enties cannot be pasted from other database.

Summary

I use KeePass it instead of "Favorites" to store urls because of its organizational features. Memo text fields for each entry allow for storage of all sorts of data, like contact information, navagation tips, etc. I wrote an interactive batch file to compare the timestamp on my current database to the most recent backup on a thumb drive. Then, if necessary, it backs up the database to the thumb drive, where it can be used on all my PCs. Support is limited to user forums, but the installed base is huge and the forums address just about every possible question.

"Simple and Efficient!"

July 12, 2008  |  By bigblubox

 |  Version: KeePass Password Safe 1.11

Pros

Very easy to use, you can store passwords for websites, email accounts.. all are protected by a master password. The user interface is very clean. You can download a zip package (which can run without installation) from the developer's site. Very practical if you want to have the software on a memory stick or external hard drive. Check it out!

Cons

none so far.
