CNET Editors' review
KeePass Password Safe Professional provides a helpful directory for remembering passwords and keeping them secure. While its layout was slightly confusing, its excellent results made us very happy, and to top it off, it's free.
The program's interface has a stark, directionless layout that initially turned us off. However, a visit to the Help file's instructions and some experimenting quickly opened this program up, and it actually proved to be easy to use. The program's functionality is quite simple: Follow an onscreen menu to enter a Web site's information and its corresponding user name and password. This entry is stored in an alphabetical directory with all your other entries, much like a digital filing card system. You can look up any forgotten password stored there, which will inevitably save a great deal of time and frustration. You must enter a Master password to open the program, which keeps your sensitive information safe from prying eyes and adds an overall level of security. KeePass also provided a strong feature that randomly generates passwords to meet specific security requirements, offering yet another way to secure your data and activities. KeePass might have offered a clearer layout, but its ability to generate, store and retrieve passwords was excellent. Use it, and you won't have to keep using the same passwords over and over again, just to remember them. Unwise.
KeePass Password Safe Professional is freeware. Its strengths at saving passwords outweigh any negatives, and we recommend this excellent security tool to all users.
Publisher's Description
From Dominik Reichl:
KeePass is a free password manager which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key-disk. So you only have to remember one single master password or insert the key-disk to unlock the whole database. Databases are encrypted using very secure encryption algorithms (AES and Twofish).
What's new in this version: Version 2.14 added option to lock after some time of global user inactivity, option to lock when the remote control status changes, support for importing DataVault 4.7 CSV files, and also has the option to collapse newly-created recycle bin tree nodes.

"Very close, but no cigar"
Version: KeePass Password Safe Professional 2.14
Pros
This free program is designed to keep track of important information - account details, passwords etc. It does this very well, and very conveniently. It is (mostly) a pleasure to use.
Cons
It has two MAJOR flaws: (1) it cannot be set to auto-save; and (2) it cannot synchronise with the portable version, which you might wish to use on a USB flashdrive.
Summary
KeePass comes in two versions: the Pro version (this one), designed to be installed on a Windows computer; and a portable version for use on a USB flashdrive. The two versions are very similar, giving you an excellent way to save usernames, passwords and website urls. Both allow import and export data in a variety of formats, but only the Pro version allows synchronisation of data (between programs on desktop and laptop machines, but not with flashdrives). Overall, I like the program for its general all-round usefulness and convenience. My only complaint is that I have to be exceptionally careful to manually save data as I enter it. Without an auto-save function, it is extremely easy to lose the data you enter - which includes the impossible-to-remember passwords you just asked it to create for you! (To give you an idea of the danger here: if you create a new password, and get distracted just as you are about to save it, when later you switch off the computer, you WILL lose that password. The program cannot delay the boot-down, so that it is unable to remind you to make the save!)

"Excellent Password Manager"
Version: KeePass Password Safe Professional 2.14
Pros
Powerful encryption, while easy management of password. Handy categorization feature. Search for keywords. Customized icons etc.
Cons
There is no "auto sync" with the cloud... but you can simply use a program like dropbox to take care of this.
Summary
I am glad I finally found a suitable replacement for ZD Net's Pasword Pro 32 v3 1 4
