Editors' review

Protecting your computer from viruses is not something to take lightly, so we're glad to say Kaspersky Internet Security does a better-than-average job of keeping your PC safe. Three new features along with expected upgrades to their antivirus engine keep Kaspersky competitive.

New features in the 2010 edition include a behavioral-based detection system called the Urgent Detection Sytsem. The UDS uses tthe anonymous data Kaspersky customers who choose to participate in submitting their system scans for analysis. In fact, the UDS must be opted-out of--there's a check box and data collection statement to read when you install the program. Also new, the Safe Run sandbox nearly doubles the amount of RAM the program uses, but provides a secure environment for launching programs. Safe Run also comes with a sandboxed folder into which you can save files without worry. Programs can be launched into Safe Run manually through the Kaspersky Security Zone panel, or launched on the fly using the context menu.

A gamer mode, somewhat superfluous virtual keyboard to avoid keylogging, and auto-run disabling are the less-impressive new features, joining stalwarts like antivirus protection for files, e-mail, HTTP traffic, and instant messaging. There are protections against spam, phishing, and banner ads, firewall control, and a network monitor to track network activities for users who like to drill down deep into their system's behavior. There's also a parental control filter, with options to customize for children or teens. Kaspersky is a strong security suite, but the extra features only available in Internet Security make it worthwhile to pay for.

    "Promises with degrading performance"

    July 21, 2014   |   By TOMW17

Version: Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 15.0.0.463

    Pros

Still good antivirus, inviting GUI, many useful features, relatively easy to use.

    Cons

Serious impact to the system and performance, slow, unreliable, unsolved compatibility issues, almost all safety features are buggy, very poor support (can be different by countries) , corporate arrogance. KIS includes many services and features that Kaspersky has been unable to develop and make fully usable and reliable for long years now.

    Summary

The new GUI as well as many safety features are dependent and subordinate to Kaspersky marketing project to boost sales. They are very inviting but KIS is getting heavier, slower, buggier, more incompatible, and less reliable from KIS 2012.

    ---------------------------
Recently antivirus solutions give very limited protection and a reliable IS software need many more security features. The KIS series have them but just don't work.

The "TOOL" section offers many features, but they are all buggy, they retrieve false results and fixing them might corrupt the system. E.g. after running " Microsoft Windows Troubleshooting" and fixing some recommended security issues the following "Vulnerability Scan" still lists the same issues as security risk, clicking "FIX", it does nothing.
Virus scan sometimes detects malwares sometimes not. I run 6 full-scans consecutively and it detected the same malware only twice from 6 scans.
I could use all the 15 000 characters to enumerate all the dangerous bugs.
    --------------------------------
Kaspersky knows about all the bugs for a long time and either they just do not care or have no idea or they don't have the required technical background or potential to fix them. My guessing is -- both.
    -------------------------------
Prime danger that KIS incompatibility problems and bugs are hidden, hard to notice and detect for average users, and when the system is corrupted or just not protected properly, users will lose association with the triggering issue thus KIS and will not know what went wrong.
    ------------------------------
I tested many other IS software, all had some minor issues, but not that much and not that unpleasant or dangerous that KIS has.
