Fast speed and flawless rendering make this freeware an excellent browser alternative, but its quirks will distract novices.
Out of the box, K-Meleon's interface closely resembles Firefox, and they're both based on the same engine. This browser wins, hands-down, on rendering a page. Pages that bog down in Firefox or that don't fit Internet Explorer's guidelines display quickly and perfectly in K-Meleon. Most users will easily pick up the buttons and commands in this browser. If not, it's easy to apply themes and skins. Plug-ins abound for options left out of the default browser, and most take one or two clicks to install. Thankfully, we found the browser needed nothing added to render the most popular Web sites.
K-Meleon doesn't fit in everywhere, however. Some basic terms are different, such as using "Layers" instead of Tabs. This browser's "Find as your type" search function often failed in multiframed Web sites. Shareware coders and plug-in authors are not as numerous as those on Firefox, leaving K-Meleon updated less often.
Nevertheless, if you need little personalization, and you desire a superfast and accurate freeware browser, this application fits the bill.

Version: K-Meleon 1.1.6
Pros: 've been using k-meleon since the first version was out.. when firebird(pre-firefox) was released i switched because back then k-meleon did lack some essential features and was still very raw albeit very fast.. i stopped updating firefox after 1.5 when things started to get bloated with mozilla(not to mention commercialised with ff 3) so i went back to k-meleon..before that i shuffled between ie and firefox because i wasn't entirely satisfied with both. k-meleon 1.1.x versions were out and i was quite impressed yet i still felt a bit uneasy with layers which- unlike tabs- are actually windows embedded within the main windows, however everything
Cons: what makes k-meleon really shine is the use of the windows api, though based on the gecko engine for rendering pages just like firefox; k-meleon uses the native windows api and doesn't rely on the xul engine like firefox which gives it unrivaled performance and stability.. you'll notice ff always takes a few seconds to launch.. k-m starts almost instantly and has a very small footprint on your ram.

"the best browser i've tried on windows"
Pros: i've been using k-meleon since the first version was out.. when firebird(pre-firefox) was released i switched because back then k-meleon did lack some essential features and was still very raw albeit very fast.. i stopped updating firefox after 1.5 when things started to get bloated with mozilla(not to mention commercialised with ff 3) so i went back to k-meleon..before that i shuffled between ie and firefox because i wasn't entirely satisfied with both. k-meleon 1.1.x versions were out and i was quite impressed yet i still felt a bit uneasy with layers which- unlike tabs- are actually windows embedded within the main windows, however everything was customisable and though k-m still doesn't have as much plugins or extensions as firefox it comes preconfigured with important extensions and the most important plugins you'll need from firefox; you will find them ported for k-m on the resources page.. one thing i really liked was the ability to use ie keyword search url with km..something that completely lacks in firefox, as far as i know, k-m is the only browser that supports ie/netscape/mozilla/opera favourites/bookmarks making a transition a complete breeze..
what makes k-meleon really shine is the use of the windows api, though based on the gecko engine for rendering pages just like firefox; k-meleon uses the native windows api and doesn't rely on the xul engine like firefox which gives it unrivaled performance and stability.. you'll notice ff always takes a few seconds to launch.. k-m starts almost instantly and has a very small footprint on your ram.. and what's more important it doesn't suffer from the xul memory leak that firefox has and still suffers from.
now, with the release of 1.5 rc i've ditched both ie and firefox and after many years i finally have a browser i'm 100% happy with and don't need any other browser to compensate for a lack of feature or a good UI.
over the years, i've tried a lot of browsers.. and this one is simply the best.
give k-meleon 1.5 a try :

..you won't regret it.

Version: K-Meleon 1.1.6
"Almost as good as Firefox, SeaMonkey, Orca, and Flock."
Pros: It's good to have several browsers on your PC because no one browser is the best for all websites. Many websites will work properly only with some browsers and not with others.
Cons: K-Meleon is fun and useful but doesn't give me the same high-quality feeling I get when using Mozilla's other 4 excellent browsers (Firefox, Orca, SeaMonkey, and Flock) or Google's Chrome or Apple's Safari.
Summary: Mozilla-based browser K-Meleon may be as good as Netscape's Navigator and Microsoft's Internet Explorer but is somewhat inferior to the 6 best browsers: Firefox, Orca, SeaMonkey, Flock, Chrome, and Safari.

Version: K-Meleon 1.1.6
Pros: Blindingly fast.
Once it's been set up it's dead easy to use.
Firefox is too bloated and hangs.
Opera 1.6 can't be used for online banking.
I don't trust IE7.
Can disguise itself as another browser which is really sneakyCons: A bit fiddly to set up, apart from that no other cons.
Summary: Loads fast, disguises itself, if you want it too.
Really fast browser for surfing the net.
Highly recommended. -
Version: K-Meleon 1.1.6
"Not fraudulent.Indeed the best browser for Windows."
Pros: Works unprecedentedly apace when browsing hitherto, gratifying me.Also,it doesn't use too much RAM,take vast space, but it is apparently a compact but potent one.I recommend this to all Windows Operating Systems.
Cons: Sometimes it forgets your passwords when logging in to forums.
