This easy-to-use security tool hides folders from nosy onlookers, but it lacks security measures of its own. Jvw File & Folder Hider's simple interface boasts a tree-view directory, which makes protecting folders a painless affair. In our tests, icons for selected folders are quickly masked with a Control Panel icon, but the name of the folder is still visible. The folder can be opened, but impressively, only Control Panel applets will be displayed. What's more, this app nicely conceals masked folders so they won't appear in searches and we weren't able to open folders even while in DOS mode. The program doesn't conceal items from the Recent Documents List, but we're happy to note they can't be accessed. Unfortunately, Jvw File & Folder Hider's own security is a bit lax, and the program isn't password-protected so anyone can use it to unlock your folders. No user settings or help files are offered with this simple program, and it has a short seven-day trial period. While Jvw File & Folder Hider proved simple to use, we suggest security-minded users look for a more effective tool to protect their important folders.
