This is a freeware defrag tool for those less interested in speed than in simple operation. JkDefrag does away with menus, options, and configuration settings. The program comes as a Windows GUI tool, a command line application, and a screensaver. Ultimately, each method operates exactly the same way.
Double click the JkDefrag executable and the program starts. There is no need to tell it which drive to defrag or whether to place folders first. JkDefrag will start processing all mounted fixed volumes it finds. It will slowly analyze and slowly defrag each drive. Don't expect to run this application over a coffee break. As it runs, the program displays a hard disk map color-coded to show each block in any of seven states. The command-line and screen saver applications work exactly the same way and at the same speed. The screen saver version is set the same way you would any other screen saver. Set it correctly and your co-workers will see you are really defragging your drive and not lost in thought about your basketball brackets.
JkDefrag addresses the old adage about products. You can have two of the options of fast, cheap or good, but not all three. JkDefrag is slow, free, and good.
Publisher's description
From Jeroen Kessels :JkDefrag is a free (released under the GNU General Public License) disk defragment and optimize utility. Completely automatic and very easy to use, fast, low overhead, with several optimization strategies, and can handle floppies and USB disks/sticks. Included are a Windows version, a commandline version (for scheduling by the task scheduler or for use from administrator scripts), a screensaver version, a DLL library (for use from programming languages).

Version: JkDefrag 3.16
Pros: Most effective even though it's not the fastest
Cons: I recommend getting JKDefrag GUI which has JKDefrag but (as the name implies) with a GUI

"One of the BEST defragmentation tools out there!"
Pros: Free, Jeroen Kessels updates this program all the time fixing bugs and improving the design and process. Love how it does what a paid defragmenter will do for free such as optimizing the hard drive or Zoning the MFT. I would recomend it, and you don't have to install any software either it is a standalone little file.
Cons: The colored map takes awhile to get used to.

"Simple, small, and works well"
Pros: It is simple to use, I fire it off occasionally before I go to lunch, when I come back, it has pretty much done all my drives.
Cons: Not fancy, not much in the way of options, but perhaps that is really a strength.

Version: JkDefrag 3.16
"The Best, The smallest and The easiest defrag tool (free or commercial)!"
Pros: I'm a system administrator and always look to improve system performance.
I'm currently using jkdefrag 3.24 in every computer I own (my wife, personal and work). In the past I used diskeeper, then tried perfectdisk, but after using jkdefrag for a while (5 months) I finally came to a conclusion:
Jkdefrag is the best defrag tool available, is very easy to use, you just double click jkdefrag.exe and automatically defrag and optimize with it's default settings (which I think are the best).
Also you can schedule it to run using windows task manager and you can customize the way it defrag your hard disk, there are several defragmentations strategies but for me the default is working flawlessly.
I have scheduled it to run at every system startup, and I can say that I really notice a small performance boost, so that's why it's not just a defragger it also optimize your hard disk.
Since i discovered jkdefrag I no longer use any other defrag tool.
Also It uses the windows API for defragmentation which makes it 100% safe to use!
Cons: The only drawback for it, is that it cannot defrag system files (pagefile, hibernation, etc), but according to Jeroen (JKdefrag developer) it's because the windows defragmentation API neither can (at last on windows xp).
But hey, even the author recommends using pagedefrag to defrag those files, and based on that I run evey boot pagedefgag.
Even so, some system files are not defragmented by pagedefrag, but that's another story.
