The straightforward, sunny Jing Project is one of the easiest ways to grab and share screenshots and videos straight from your PC. The interface, half a lemon yellow sphere, sits at the top of your screen, waiting for you to hover over it to begin capturing the image or screencast in a crosshair.
You'll be able to annotating images and review videos, but copying, saving, and sharing them is what Jing is really about. Version 2.0 adds a useful Help Center and lets you configure new buttons that will upload your creations to Flickr, an FTP account, or to Screencast.com in a click.
An optional paid upgrade to Jing Pro ($14.95 per year) upgrades videos to hi-def H.264 quality, removes the watermark on videos, and easily uploads screencasts to Facebook, YouTube, Viddler and Vimeo. To the publisher's credit, the upgrade options are unobtrusive and the free version remains completely serviceable.

Publisher's description
From TechSmith :Jing is the easiest way to add visuals to your online conversations. See something cool you want to save or share? Use Jing to snap a screenshot and add a caption, highlight, or arrow. Or make a quick movie by recording onscreen action and your voice. Jing uploads the image or video to your free Screencast.com account (or elsewhere), then gives you a URL you can share instantly. Jing is 100% free. A Pro version adds direct-to-YouTube upload, a superior video format.
What's new in this version:
1) You can now customize Jing's buttons to keep your favorite sharing destinations handy. Add, reorder, rename, and delete buttons as you wish. 2) When you record your entire screen and upload it to Screencast.com, the video will now scale to fit inside the viewer's browser. No more annoying scrollbars. 3) Jing now has a Pro version that gives you a superior video format (MPEG-4 AVC), direct-to-YouTube upload, more compact file sizes, and does not add Jing logos and links to your videos. Version: Jing 2.0.8353
"You need to create account to use it (email and passw)"
Pros: It is easy to use.
Cons: It saves to SWF, which did not open in my computer (I have Media Player, Quicktime, Camtasia, etc.). You would need to download a player for that. It asks you to join screencast.com before you could use the software. It did not let me skip that step.
Summary: I places a small half sun on the top of the screen (in the middle) for you to use the software, but you can hide it and use a hotkey. If you place the cursor on it it gives you 3 initial options: capture, history, and more. The capture takes several... read more >>

Version: Jing 2.0.8353
"It's good, but not there yet."
Pros: Pretty Interface, Easy to navigate and use, and direct upload to Youtube or Flickr. A cave man can do it.
Cons: There is a nag screen on the bottom left hand corner telling how long your recording has gone, only two video formats (one being for the pro version), can't hide the cursor, and a lack of features that other screen recorders have.
Summary: If you want something simple and fast by all means this is the screen recorder for you. Though if you want something with more features or options I still suggest CamStudio as free screen recorder of choice.
