Publisher's description
From Sun Microsystems :The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provides the libraries, the Java Virtual Machine, and other components to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. In addition, two key deployment technologies are part of the JRE: Java Plug-in, which enables applets to run in popular browsers; and Java Web Start, which deploys standalone applications over a network. This is the official Java Download from Sun Microsystems.

Version: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3
Pros: Used to run LimeWire and OpenOffice.
Cons: If it wasn't necessary for LimeWire or OpenOffice, I wouldn't use it at all. I never got the point of the program. Yes I understand the point of Java, but this "necessary" application basically makes programs 100MB+ more. OpenOffice should have only been 100MB but plus Java it's like 200MB installed. Java uses a lot of memory in the background. I remember when I didn't know anything about computers, it made my computer run so slow.. and used like 5 processes in between just for "updates" and "running certain items." I'm so annoyed of it and I wish it wasn't a necessary program.

Version: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3
Cons: Every time I try to download ANYTHING from Java, a Windows Installer message pops up after the JRE finishes downloading saying that the package wasn't valid and the publisher could not be verified.
