"Excellent Program, Idiotic Support"
Version: Iside 3.0
The application is integrated into the Windows Shell Extension, allowing rapid right-click access to opening the application and for file checksum comparisons, among other things. The application is fast and does it's job well.
Operating system upgrades, changes in UAC control, new computer, and installation of system packs all reset ISIDE and require re-entry of the serial and purchase information. LittleLite says you exceed the single user license, and says REPURCHASE!
The application is integrated into the Windows Shell Extension, providing rapid right-click context menu access to opening the application and for file checksum comparisons, fast checksum display, and one-click generation of MD5 checksums, among other things. The application is fast and does its job well.
ISIDE generates checksums for single files, multiple files, and for directories. Aside from being a simple MD5 checksum utility, ISIDE also utilises legacy and newer cutting edge alternate checksums such as: ALDER32, CRC32, FCS16/32, GHash-32-3/32-5, GOST, HAVAL128/160/192/224/256, SHA1/256/224/384/512, RIPEMD160, TIGER, WHIRLPOOL, and HMAC-SHA1. If these don't meet your needs, you are probably working in steganographic encoding/encryption decoding/decryption in a dark, cool basement sitting at a 10 monitor workstation for the NSA.
My biggest complaint is that LittleLite Support will not work with you if you frequently install OS upgrades, service packs, or you have purchased a new computer and removed it from your old one. If you are in complete compliance with the single-user single-computer policy, at some point the reactivation (yes, much like Windows product activation, only completely incompetent in verifying that you are still on the same system). They do not trust that you are in compliance with the single-user licensing aggreement, and despite attempts to explain your situation, they just say 'You need to purchase a new license' and stop responding to any further requests for support on that topic. This aspect makes me very angry, and makes the initial purchase completely worthless. There are some free alternatives out there, but I haven't seen one with this many features and so well integrated into the Windows Shell Environment. If you need suppoort due to failure of product reactivation ... caveat emptor. The poor support on this latter topic is what makes me review this application as a 3/5, instead of the 5/5 it deserves if only their customer support wasn't completely adversarial.
