"Internet Explorer has had its day. Don't give another chance. . ."

June 29, 2006  |  By Vanillaman

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 7 SP2 Beta 2 build 5346

Pros

Nothing

Cons

IE7 is going to be exactly the same as IE6. It is just no longer capable of adapting to the internet and is still way too slow and struggles to cope. Its high time Internet Explorer exits the market. If they want to help customers, then they should take note and do us all a favour: DON'T LAUNCH IE7

"Who needs FireFox now that IE7 has tabs?"

June 28, 2006  |  By ramsj900

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 7 SP2 Beta 2 build 5346

Pros

Yes the tabbed browsing is copycat, but it is what the public wants so no browser can be without it. Who cares who had tabs first.

Like the easy magnification button on the bottom left of the status bar. One or two clicks and I am at 125%, 150% then one more click and back to normal. Really helps with all those crazy "designer sites" with the tiny text and interfaces.

Runs fast with the anti-phishing filter off since I never have been sucked into those sites anyways. If I am not sure just click the icon and IE7 will check that site and return to the off position.

So many sites I frequent require IE for the Active-X including WellsFargo.com and HP.com I always hated IE6 for the multiple window BS, but I must say I use FireFox less and less on my machine with IE7

Cons

Toolbar layouts are generally unimpressive, but maybe some creative types will make some cool skin.

Some high security sites don't recognize the browser yet, but that is fixble between and final release

"Once Again, Microsoft Playing a Bad Game of Catch-Up!"

June 28, 2006  |  By mikeman61

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 7 SP2 Beta 2 build 5346

Pros

This product "looks" nice. But an enhanced GUI and a handful of "useful" new features (that are really overdue features), such as tabbed browsing, is not enough to save Microsoft on this one.

Cons

Microsoft's two biggest character flaws as a software development company stick out like a sore thumb with this monstrosity of a "product."

1) This is the most over-the-top bloated set of code I've ever tried to work with as an end user working with a tool to try to accomplish something I know how to do very well.

2) Their new features that could actually be useful have long since been introduced by others like Firefox and they are far less intuitive to work with.

Microsoft took so many hits on its security holes with IE6 that they really went to town with over the top security elements in this new version. All I can say is that this browser is so safety conscious you feel like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming truck while navigating through the web.

Will the average Joe who just wants to surf the web ever be able to figure out how to configure this monstrosity? I believe the answer is "no way"! There are so many security parameters related to all kinds of technology integration and interaction that the typical user will be baffled and overwhelmed when they try to set this up and then use it.

Once people experience this degree of complexity and perceive the need for a computer science degree in order to use IE7, they will begin finding about alternatives like Opera and Firefox that are highly functional, visually appealing and very intuitive. Then there goes even more of Microsoft's browser market share.

If I were Microsoft, I would keep this in beta for a long time. Conduct more useability studies and develop user profile templates that cover 80% of the people who do or will use the web in the next five years. They can pick from one of five types and then there will be auto-configuration of the browser. Better to stay in character and be a little late then to put out something many people will not be able to use and drive them away in droves.

"Buggy Beta for experienced beta testers only."

June 28, 2006  |  By Home PC User

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 7 SP2 Beta 2 build 5346

Pros

None yet, wait for stable final release then features will work,Anti-phishing,

Tabbed browsing with thumbnail index,

Built-in RSS reader,Improved printing options,CSS rendering,etc...

Only for experienced beta testers, not for general public daily use yet, still far too many bugs.

Cons

Its a Buggy Beta, memory hog

freezes, unpredictable, not for General Public yet, as their main daily use browser, better to use Avant, Firefox or Opera.

"Great security, difficult interface"

June 27, 2006  |  By stevent1992

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 7 SP2 Beta 2 build 5346

Pros

I sincerely hope that security remains top priority in the next version of IE becuase IE 6 is like suicide for your computer, great anti phishing tools and I really like the rss reader! it saves me from having to download one that I don't even know how to operate anyway. I like tool bars but this has great space saving what ever you call them as toolbars, I also like when you open a few tabs how it displays them in small windows like thumnails thats great too overall it is an improvement I still don't recommend you use it unless you'll go with the risk of it overwriting your previous stable IE 6 which is what it does becuase i used it too!

Cons

I don't like how they layed out the browser it is so much more difficult to use to be, I'm used to the address bar being below the toolbars and buttons but this violates their normal design of browser. I don't like it when the phishing filter constantly showing me dialog boxes saying 'Are you sure you want to perform these actions' I think Microsoft should have made it more idiot proof rather than geek proof becuase I dont have time for all these dialog boxes they seem to have lost the plot altogether, and I think it will be worse in Vista. The search box only has MSN search I DONT WANT MSN SEARCH I WANT GOOGLE SEARCH and when i tried to change it nothing happened duh. Fianlly IE 7 has change too much from what I used to know IE and all these ideas are simply taken elseware eg. hello tabbed browsing found in Firefox, hello zooming found in Opera but I do see IE 7 cause another browser just like it did in the late with IE 4 and 5, oh and still does not fully support todays web standards.

"Microsoft Arrogance"

June 27, 2006  |  By RCHOBO

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 7 SP2 Beta 2 build 5346

Pros

Nothing

Cons

With the development of IE shells like Slim Browser, Avant, and Maxthon...the increased usage of Firefox among unhappy IE surfers, and the ever the lightweight speed and security of Opera...YOU WOULD THINK MICROSOFT would have a reasonable clue as to what users want in a browser. It isn't IE 7.

Please down load this and try it out. It will give you first hand reason to switch to FireFox, or at the very least a browser shell like Maxthon.

IE 7, is still years behind the needs and wants of web surfers. Microsoft need to get out of the browser business and focus on Windows, before that too is tossed to the curb for Linux.

Microsoft has lost touch with the needs of todays computer user. The once innovative company has become complacent.

"junk. keep using v6 .."

June 20, 2006  |  By jerrybeard

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 7 SP2 Beta 2 build 5346

Pros

didn't see any real inprovement. hugh waste of time.

Cons

Where did my email button go??? Get AVANT !

Avant is the best browser out there, I was just hoping this IE7 would be comparable, but ... now to "reset to an earlier point"

to get rid of this crap. (not that it matters since I will continue to use Avant)

wish I had read the bad reviews on here first..
