From Intel :The Vtune Performance Analyzer collects, analyzes, and displays software performance data from the systemwide view down to a specific function, module, or instruction in your application source. The Vtune analyzer samples your application’s activity using nonintrusive technologies, allowing you to drill down to the source code for performance bottlenecks. In addition, you can ask for a Call Graph, which displays the program's flow of control graphically, and also drill down to source code. The analyzer’s intimate knowledge of the processor provides extensive insights into how the calls utilize the CPU, and the Tuning Assistant suggests optimization techniques.
The latest version of the VTune analyzer incorporates a number of improvements that make performance tuning easier and more efficient including Time Based Sampling, Event Based Sampling, Enhanced Call Graph, Intel Tuning Assistant, and much more.
