From Initio Corp.:

This firmware update must be flashed from OS 9 it will not work from OS X. Your SCSI drives WILL be bootable with this firmware and ONLY hard drives are supported with this firmware. To flash the firmware you run the SmartSCSI application and select Setup/ 1st card configuration. Then in the next screen you click on the Update Firmware button. When it is finished you close all screens and reboot the machine.
