Editors' Review

This app effectively plays peek-a-boo with your files; unfortunately it does the same with its interface. Infinite Enigma's primary interface is merely a set of buttons dropped on your desktop. There is a way to move the buttons, but the program keeps the secret hidden until you perform a particular function. Don't bother with the Help file; it displays precious little information to the user.

Operating Infinite Enigma takes a bit of patience as the app forces users to create a secret key combination and two secret passwords just to access the program. You better remember all three or you may never see you hidden files again. Even installing another copy of the app isn't going to unhide those files. Once the key combination and passwords are set and you relaunch the app, you enter only the secret key combo and first password. If you enter the second one it quietly destroys all previously hidden files.

All that fuss finally displays the interface: six brightly colored buttons all in a line. Hiding a file takes merely the effort of dragging it onto the hide button. The process is the same to wipe a file. Neither operation is particularly fast, but both are effective and will deter all but the most dedicated sneaks.

Unhiding a file is complicated and must be experienced to believe. The interface displays My Computer. Clicking a check box opens the main drive. Click that chec kbox to get a folder, and so on until you reach the point where the hidden file was originally placed. Not intuitive, and certainly not easy to use.

You can't grab and move the desktop button interface until you hide a file. While hiding a file a frame pops up around the buttons. Quickly grab the frame and drag the buttons where you need them.

The unregistered demo can't unhide files greater than 50KB. It certainly would have been better to restrict the ability to hide files greater than 50KB, but Infinite Enigma seems to work hard to make the app unfriendly. We suggest you continue searching for a more effective and intuitive application that fits your needs.
