Although it won't manage your files and folders, this tool expedites the file-searching process. Index Search Assistant's clear-cut interface provides a step-by-step wizard to guide users through the process of indexing hard drive and network files, including archives. It took quite awhile to create a full index and caused some noticeable system sluggishness, but fortunately you can expedite things by having it index only specific locations or document types. The program supports regular expression searches, and returned quick, accurate test results using keywords, file masks, dates, and file size. Search results can easily be generated in HMTM or RTF format, with keywords prominently highlighted. The built-in text converter also effectively locates keywords within several types of file formats, including Microsoft Word and Excel. We're pleased to find you can preview files, but unlike the standard Windows search tool, you won't be able to modify them. Nonetheless, with everything else it brings to the table, we recommend this program to any user for enhancing file-searching tasks.
