Inssider is a Wi-Fi network scanner for Windows Vista and Windows XP. Although NetStumbler, the most popular Wi-Fi network scanner, it hasn't been actively developed for years. Version: InSSIDer 1.1.1.0223

"Works like a charm, easy to setup!"

    by rocky367 on March 8, 2009

Pros: The ability to scan and see the networks that are causing interference is a great plus. Being able to see at a glance the area networks is nice.

Cons: Definitely not Netstumbler, lack of good documentation in the help menu. Lack of gps interface. Seems to stop scanning from time to time.

Summary: Since I haven't been able to get netstumbler to work with Vista I'll have to settle for this. It does the same job, without all the features that NetStumbler has. Better than nothing!

    Version: InSSIDer 1.1.1.0223

"An excellent alternative to Net Stumbler"

    by W Macaulay on February 27, 2009

Pros: : Shows all WiFi access points and wireless stations in your area
: Uses the Windows API for more reliable access to any wireless device
    : Works with Vista
: Easy to read interface shows all detected networks

Cons: There's little to grumble about with InSSIDer. It's really the best of the best. It would be great to see interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, but you need special hardware for that. InSSIDer's website sells these devices.

Summary: Given that Net Stumbler hasn't been updated since 2004, InSSIDer is the logical move for home and professional users looking to ensure optimal wireless performance in their environment.
