CNET Editors' review
ImageWell can help anyone who needs a quick and easy way to edit and upload images. Combining two functions, ImageWell is designed specifically to modify images and post them to a Web server. You can perform simple edits by dragging an image onto the ImageWell icon. From there you can crop and resize, or add drop shadows, labels, text, and watermarks. You can also use its built-in screen-grab feature.
ImageWell does a good job of uploading files to a designated server (such as an iDisk or FTP), and it supports batch exports for folders of images. ImageWell is a decent app for bloggers, eBay posters, or for anyone looking for a flexible utility for editing and sharing photos.
Publisher's Description
From XtraLean Software:
ImageWell is the easy way to edit, rotate, crop, and resize your image and upload it to your iDisk (.mac account), FTP server, or WebDAV server. No need to launch multiple applications to add text, labels, thought clouds, talking balloons, drop shadows, watermarks, and shapes. Add colored borders, take screen grabs, and store multiple locations for sending. At the click of a button, the image is sent and a handy URL is copied to the clipboard.
Universal binary for PPC/Intel Mac support and localized in 13 languages. Still Free, but can be upgraded to unlock more features: batch resize mode, multiple images in edit window, templates for saving styles, more draw objects and line styles, gradient patterns for backgrounds and objects. "destroys free version!!!"
Version: ImageWell 4.0.7
Pros
free version worked fine on 10.5.8
Cons
destroys the previously free version thus w/o pay where is no use anymore
Summary
No warning that the free version gets destroyed, it seems the payed version does not has that many more features to rectify to be payed

"Good and very useful"
Version: ImageWell 4.0.7
Pros
Easy to use and very useful for creating images with texts or combining images in a simple way.
Cons
1 unwanted margins/white frames or partial frames 2 lines with arrows are not supple enough: would be nice to make a continuous arrow with sections slanted to different angles (to indicate directions in a street map).
Summary
I used this app quite a lot to put captions into photos or maps. I find it easy to use but it has room for a few improvements (such as the capacity to make a continuous arrow that goes in different directions instead of just vertically and horizontally).

"A superior purpose-built tool"
Version: ImageWell 3.7.6
Pros
Quick to start up, easy to use for tasks it was designed for, current version added a few more really useful features, $20 price is phenomenal value
Cons
Nothing! It's the best product of its type!
Summary
If you do small manipulations (resizing, cropping, framing) of graphics on a regular basis, this is the best tool of its type available. For $20 you get the 20% of the features of the big gorilla packages that you use most often without the overhead of those tools. Drag and drop functionality, and in this version even the ability to process a whole batch of graphics at a time and save a set of transformations to apply in the future...what more could you want? Test it for a couple of weeks and I guarantee you'll find many fewer reasons to fire up Photoshop!

"Don't call this freeware."
Version: ImageWell 3.7.4
Pros
I've only used the previous version that was free.
Cons
You only have a 7 day trial period and then it is $19.95. So don't call this freeware

"WONT SEND PHOTOS, KEEPS SAYING PROBLEM XX"
Version: ImageWell 3.7.3
Pros
ONCE THIS IS FIXED, I WOULD BUY IT IMMEDIATELY,AS IT IS NOWFOR MY OSX 10.5.6 IMAC
Cons
I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO TRANSFER ANY PHOTOS, AS I SAY KEEPS SAYING IT CAN'T BE DONE, BECAUSE OF PROBLEM XX
Summary
THE OLD ONE WAS GREAT AND SO EASY TO USE, THIS NEW VERSION: AFTER YOU DRAG AND DROP YOUR PHOTO, IT STAYS THERE AND JUST COMES UP WITH THE MESSAGE I HAVE STATED. THE OLD ONE, CAME UP WITH THE LARGE WHITE GIZMO, WHERE YOU COULD CUT, ENLARGE, ADD SIGNATURE, TELL IT WHERE YOU WANTED TO SEND IT, WHICH WORKED REALLY WELL WITH MAC OS 10.5.6.
I'M REALLY DISAPOINTED IN THIS ONE. -
"Keeps coming up with fault every photo,"
Version: ImageWell 3.7.2
Pros
Very Dissapointed, don't like this version
Cons
he early one was great, this one for the mac 10.5.6 is very dissapointing, unless some improvement is made I wont buy it.
Summary
In the last one I used with OS 10.4, I found it perfect for scanning photos and altering the size, or croping. It also put your photo onto a large screen where it was easy to work with, this one isn't 1/4 as efficient asthis last one, if I could get that one to work with OSX 10.5.6, I would definately download it to see if it worked as well as the last one, if it did, then I would buy it.
very disapointedin this new updated version. I may buy it well in the future after you make it similar to the old version.

"It is worse than the previous system I used before"
Version: ImageWell 3.5.3
Pros
Sorry but nothing, I am very dissapointed in it, the former version was a wonderful thing to operate, when you put your image on, then it turned into a largeblock where you could alter the size, name it, do whatever you needed to,
Cons
To complicated compared to the one I used with OS X10.4.9 which was straight forward.
I'm afraid this version has gone backwards for the Mac system.Summary
Different entirely from the previous one, in that I need to send it to a disk, or email, where as the last one I found really easy to operate, and was prepared to buy it after I bought the new osx10.5.4.
I liked it where you could load the image, that converted into the large image, with all the parts to make it bigger, or thumbnail size.
I wish I could have this old one for the new mac, as it was really suitable for my needs,
If it would work in this OS10.5.4, please advise how I can get it now??
