Publisher's description
From TeraByte :Image for Windows is a Win32-based backup-and-restore utility that creates a snapshot of an entire partition or volume to a set of files or directly to most DVD+RW/R, DVD-R/RW, or CD-R/RW drives. If something ever happens to that partition or volume, you'll be able to restore the snapshot image.
Version 1.49 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: Image for Windows 1.49
"Straightforward partition imager"
Pros: Does one thing only: images and restores partitions. Fast, easy to understand and use. When creating an image you can verify that your image is an exact byte copy of the original partition. Comes with a DOS version (Image for DOS) so you can restore your partition even if you have erased Windows entirely. You can buy this product in a bundle with Terabyte's boot/partition manager BootIt NG - the two products work well together and can read each other's image files. You should install the PHYLock utility (tiny utility, download free from Terabyte web site) before using Image for Windows.
Cons: No help buttons. You have to read the PDF manual, which covers both the Windows and the DOS versions in one book so is a bit confusing. Purchasing is confusing. You get a key which you use register Image for Windows, and a download link from which you download a full-license Image for DOS which you then register with the same key. There is also a trial version of Image for DOS which, confusingly, you cannot register. You must download the full license version and then register it.

Version: Image for Windows 1.49
"Finally an XP imager that consistently works"
Pros: I tried them all...Ghost, Acronis, etc but they were all kludgy and painful to use. Then I created an Image for Windows (IFW 1.5) plugin to use with Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (UBCD4Win). This is the way to image an XP OS partition. Boot BartPE from CD/DVD and image the idle XP OS C:drive and all your other data partitions. Very fast and reliable! 12 GB XP OS partition with byte-for-byte validation in about 25 minutes. Very nice.
I combined this process with an external USB2 HD to avoid storing the images on multiple CD/DVDs. Very convenient. Recently I had to restore a trashed XP system and IFW worked flawlessly. Sure beats having to rebuild XP from scratch.
IFW is also less expensive than the competition with excellent site support from TeraByte.
Cons: IFW by itself suffers from the same inherent problem of trying to image a running OS. Booting with BartPE (free!) solves this issue.

Version: Image for Windows 1.49
Pros: Program seems to do what it say, but I was unable to see it...
Cons: The program creates the disks, but the process stops at any I/O disc writing problems and terminates it! I have been throwing away 12 CDs (2 times) and the program does not offer the possibility to retry or to finish the creation process from where it stopped!!!

Version: Image for Windows 1.49
Pros: Create an image of your HDD on a CD or DVD disk, or auxillary HDD. Or copy the image of a drive to the same drive using the Phylock plugin. Image can be edited using TBIview (IE plugin). TBIview supports file extraction and injection.
Terabyte provides comprehensive support. I also highly recommend their boot manager application, BootITNG. These 2 applications do as much and more than programs costing hundreds of dollars.

Version: Image for Windows 1.49
Pros: It does one function and does it well. With the absence of the graphical bloat you find it rather appealing. Tthose that have been around awhile can take a totally fried drive, replace it. boot from a DOS (yes DOS) diskette, and restore the drive.
Cons: A little geeky when you first see it but you quickly come to learn that is an advantage.
Summary: There is one function that I kind of miss from Ghost. The ability of the file viewer to remove a file then re compress it, possibly using a deeper algorithm. This may be something included with future versions.
