• Crashes constantly & atrocious accuracy

  Has crashed no less than 6 times in the last 3 hours of use. (NOTE: Trial was run in Windows 7 compatibility mode on Windows 8 Pro x64) Results often showed 99% similar images which looked NOTHING alike.

  Summary

  Very very slow compared to 2 other duplicate image finder programs I use, which also undertake visual comparison (rather than 100% exact duplicates), and accuracy was often atrocious. As it is often said on the Bolide Software forum: "the algorithm is not perfect".

  Pros

  Top-notch at finding duplicates and "similar" images. Nice graphics with highlighted "differences". Straightforward interface.

  Cons

  Very few sorting options for "duplicate" groups, which means that removing unwanted images is slow and laborious: eg, I'd like to be able to sort by image (NOT file) size, or some "quality" algorithm. Windows only.

  Summary

  Brilliant detection software somewhat hamstrung by not-so-brilliant option set. I haven't experienced any of the problems encountered by any of the other posters (perhaps because I didn't expect a working copy for free), and was so impressed with its detection capabilities that I've since bought the product (a one-time only cost; at least when I paid for it).

  Pros

  Tried "within a gallery" comparison - all images are in on directory tree in multiple folders. I knew there are duplicates and versions of the same image at different sizes and cropping.<p>It is possible to change the run priority of the comparison, which could be useful, though I didn't try out the different settings.<p>On the whole though I'll give it 9/10 for accuracy, considering the total number of pairs found and the number of errors. Wading through the 2,177 pairs with 97% or greater similarity, there were some glaringly obvious problems, which seems to be due to using a simple count of pixels of a particular colour over image "structure", e.g. a 300x50px logo (basically white text, in relief, on a white back ground) was 97% similar to a scanned A4 document of my bank statements. And two versions of a graphic with a block of white text (that is markedly different in size between the two versions) and two images (that are also completely different between the two versions) on a black back ground, were 96% similar. <p>My test was to see how well it found duplicates. So, being able to move or delete those found was not an issue at this point, as long as that actually works well in a purchased copy.

  When trying to save results to a network drive the program crashed - is this a bug or a feature?<p>Comparing 28,795 images completed after about 4 hours. I don't expect such programs to do a good job AND do it quicker than paint dries but when I realised that the 28,795 images corresponded to only part of my collection, which according to Windows only contains 16,704 images total!? I dread to imagine how long it would take to process my entire image library.<p>Introductory assistant - too brief, if you know what you are doing you don't need it, if you don't know what you're doing it's a little thin. I tried the suck it and see approach.

  (Apologies to readers: I can't figure out how to avoid download.com parsers to put the text in paragaphs. The parser removes all my hard return paragraph breaks no matter how I do them resulting in an almost unintellgilble endlesss mash of words) <p> <p>Problems from smallest to largest. <p> <p> <p> <p> <p>1. The program doesn't work with black background color schemes. It uses the windows color scheme text color but not the windows color scheme background color. It sets a white background. Therefore it you use light text on a black background for your windows color scheme, you get light text on white background in this program. <p> <p> <p> <p> <p>2. The program doesn't work with Windows font magnification. You can't see the second image and you can't expand the dialog box enough to make it visible. <p> <p> <p> <p> <p>3. The trial distribution is completely misleading. It says it is a 30 day trial distribution of the program. However, the trial program is in my opinion not functional because you can't do anything with it. You can't delete or move any files. You can't do anything with files. That makes it non functional in my book. If it's nonfunctional why put in a time limit. It's a mere sample, not a trial program. <p> <p>As a result, I really don't know if it works or not. <p> <p>I was considering buying it until I figured out what they had done. After seeing that, I changed my mind. <p> <p> <p> <p> <p>This kind of sample, as opposed to a temporary functional program, should be discouraged. <p> <p> <p> <p> <p>I would recommend that potential users help sent a message to developers that this kind of phoney functionality will not get money out of people's pocket.

  Found many duplicate and similar images! Tried another products like Dup Detector and Image Dupeless, but Image Comparer do the best

  The database took forever to build and when it did I couldn't do ANYTHING with the duplicate images it found. Pressing the Copy, Move or Delete buttons told me that I had to get the full version. <p> <p>So what was I evaluating? How slow it was? The fact that I couldn't do ANYTHING with the duplicates? The fact that I couldn't select more than one image at a time and even that took a second or so to register. <p> <p>Poor, poor software.
