While most apps in this genre allow you to add sites and programs to block, IMterrupt Home Version simply lets you pick from a list of sites and programs it can block. There's no way to add other sites or applications. So, your first step is to check if you need to block what is listed.
IMterrupt Home Version's interface has a File menu, toolbar, and tree menu, and each gives access to the same options. Operating the program is as simple as ticking checkboxes next to the sites and apps you want to block. There are eight main categories, including instant messenger programs, games, chat rooms, browsers, and Web sites. The program covers all the major IM programs and browsers, so you'll probably find yours listed there. For categories like games and chat, there aren't individual listings. Instead, you can check the box to block the keywords games and chat. A simple scheduler lets you add times that the program should block access to your selected items.
IMterrupt Home Version can also prevent users from changing Windows time and date, so more savvy users can't trick the program into allowing access. We found the program effective in all selected areas--a site opens briefly then immediately closes. Unlike some programs, you don't have the option of presenting a message when a user tries to access a blocked item. You also can't block by user--the settings apply to all. IMterrupt Home is password protected, and can only be uninstalled from the main interface. It includes a few easily implemented Advanced settings to block Task Manager, Control Panel, and Registry access.
This is one of the easier to use control programs we've tried. The short seven day trail should be enough time for even the most novice of users to give IMterrupt Home Version a full test run. If you're looking for a simple way to block access to common IM programs and sites, this effective program is worth a try.
