This toolbar aims to translate Web pages in real time, but we found that its results were unreliable.

Because IE Translator didn't automatically show up on our toolbar, we had to pay a visit to our Tools menu to add it. The basic, straightforward design will appeal to most users. There's a shortcut that takes you directly to the publisher's site, and a drop-down list that lets you choose from 12 languages (including two forms of Chinese: simplified and traditional) for translation. Three other buttons (Translate, About, and Register) take up the remaining space. There's still plenty of space left over that would be suitable for some extra features. Initially, we were impressed by the program's speed and accuracy when translating text. But once we veered from the publisher's Web site, our findings were much different. We encountered an error message on several occasions that prevented the program from translating a particular site. For other sites, the program translated only parts of the page and left the rest blank. This was even the case for more prominent Web sites such as Yahoo.

We were disappointed by this program's results, and a brief, 15-day trial didn't help matters. Users should steer away from IE Translator in favor of a more functional translation tool.
