"This is not the 'current' version."
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Pros
Works as well as ICQ itself does.
Cons
Archaic and irrelevant.
Summary
Version 3.4 is not the latest version. The ICQ site has a newer, more modern version available, but unfortunately it requires the appalling Adobe AIR framework, as it's written in Flash (so it's not *really* a Mac version, it's pretty much just their web version on the desktop).
However it still does not support video or any of the other features that have been added to the Windows version in the 8 years since the previous Mac version was released. Aside from adding Facebook support, which pretty much everything supports, so trying to morph ICQ into a Facebook client is as pointless as using ICQ itself). So, it's newer, but it's still a very limited application. Even Yahoo's stagnated YIM is more feature-rich, despite being older than the new-gen ICQ Mac client.
And really, who uses ICQ any more? -
"Unfortunately, I don't know anyone any longer with ICQ."
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Pros
I used to use it a lot but now I don't know anyone else who uses it.
Cons
I can't use it with out knowing who else has it.
Summary
I just wish I knew who had it now.

"Antiquated application"
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Pros
Works well enough.
Cons
Dreadfully outdated - unchanged since 2003.
Summary
Works great ONLY with other ICQ Users.
ICQ users are hard to find. L.O.L.
iChat is my choice. -
"ICQ messenger yea ok"
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Pros
like ICQ and like its individual style
Cons
not as popular as it once was but wish there was more frequent updates as per the frequency of updates for the windows version

"wont register"
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Pros
it might be good if i cant get my icq number
Cons
On Set up, it makes me fill in all the info then the face spins (to show that the system is trying to generate my number for me) and it appears as if it is getting me a number. but never does. About 1 month ago, a message that came up after the face stopped spinning which said i had to wait to get a number. this lasted about 2 weeks.
Now, it is just crashing after the face spin routine. No messages at all. there is no explanation about what to do about this on the site either. Maybe I have to get my number on a PC and then try to use it on a mac? Who knows. there is no help for this topic in the sites troubleshooting.

"This app is useless"
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The last time this app was updated was in 2003 - that's coming up to 5 years. You cannot send/receive files with this app. About all you can do is chat. How lame is this? If you can't send or receive files like you can with the pc version, than this is a completely useless app. This developer clearly has abandoned Macs.
Total waste of time. -
"Won't Register"
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Pros
Can not describe any when it won't register.
Cons
Won't register.

"ICQ isn't so good anymore"
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I recently picked up an old PowerBook 3400 and upgraded it to OS 9.1 ICQ is the only IM service I use that I havn't had any luck in using on it.
ICQ's website is a big ugly non-userfriendly mess of a website. Finding info on getting an account or so much as Downloading a Mac OS anyversion ICQ client or how to retreive a forgotten password is like hunting for a needle in a haystack. I had to come here to VT.com just to get a downlaod..
Then I couldn't remember my pass so I tried to recover it and that didn't work. The website gave me an error. I know for a fact I was using correct info. It just couldn't for whatever reason actually send a new password to my e-mail after I went the trouble to fill out the forms.
So then I went into the ICQ program on my PowerBook and it coudln't get through when I tried to make a new ICQ#.
ICQ at one time many years ago was the only Instant Messanging client I used. With all the spam a lot of my friends stopped using it and I found myself using other IM services like AIM, YIM, and MSN. However I keep it for the one or two who still do. But all this is just making me think I should tell them to either get a different IM service or forget about talking to me.
Unless you need to use ICQ in a dire way, I suggest convincing your friends to switch to something better and forget about ICQ. -
"Garbage"
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Quits before I can register. ICQ site also doesn't let me register, (and offers no help to figure out what's going wrong), despite using Safari (as Netscape, IE 6 for Windows, and Safari itself) and Firefox. My advice: Get something else that actually works properly and has been updated since 2003. I guess we Mac users just don't count, eh? -
"Version 5 is out for the PC, now what about the Mac?"
Version: ICQ 3.4.23
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using other 3rd party version of ICQ for the Mac for well over 5 years. (I've been using ICQ for much longer than that) The reason in many cases is because ICQ seems to of forgotten it's roots, and has destroyed, or removed any progress on the Mac side at all.The Mac side is dismal compared to the PC version, the same GUI has been rehashed out for the last three versions (revisions) for the last two to three years.
No video, no audio chat, no interactive game playing between users, not even the ability to use many chat functions that the PC user takes for granted. Adium in itself has surpassed ICQ's capabilities and functionality almost 100 fold, and they have 1/100th of the budget, and manpower that ICQ has as a whole.
They are starting to incorporate game play, something ICQ for the Mac hasn't seen, nor probably will ever see.
Sure iChat takes care of the audio and video part of the equivalent of what ICQ is missing but there is no excuse why the Mac version of ICQ has stayed stagnant for so long while the PC version has gone from a basic text based internet chat program to a fully fledged multimedia internet chat program.
Now before people say there aren't enough Mac Users to justify the need of a new ICQ, that's BS... Last time I checked there are well over several million Mac users in my region of the US alone (NE US). I'm sure quite a few of them would like to see a new ICQ worthy of the title update. (Myself included) This does not mean just updating the GUI, this means updating the GUI, and it's functionality to work with the PC users as well as all Mac users alike.
