From ICQ :

ICQ ("I seek you") is a user-friendly Internet program that searches for your friends and associates on the Net, alerting you in real time when they sign on. With ICQ, you can exchange messages and files, have real-time chat, play games, and more. Newer features included improved client-server communication, expanded preferences, speech support, a customizable split-screen chat mode, text and file drag-and-drop capabilities, bug fixes, and an enhanced interface. This newest version contains a change in the message history: incoming and outgoing messages are now stored in a database. In addition, ICQ now contains a built-in email client, and can periodically check to see if you have new mail on your mail server. Users will also enjoy new security features, new preferences, and a PC and Mac character translator.
