If Windows' built-in screen-capture abilities satisfy you, you probably haven't tried HyperSnap. With this professional utility, you can capture images you never could have before. For instance, you can grab only a button image, whether active or inactive, with or without the mouse pointer showing. The application also lets you nab stills from a video game, capture the contents of a scrolling text window, or create a how-to slide show by capturing active regions at a constant size. The Capture menu lists all the keyboard shortcuts for available actions, and the help file tells you what those actions do. If you choose the wrong action, the built-in tools let you edit your screengrab. The trial version stamps all images with ads for the software, but you should be able to quickly figure out whether this program is one you want to pay for.

Publisher's description

From Hyperionics Technology :

HyperSnap is the fastest and easiest way to take screen captures as images and capture editable text (TextSnap) from any part of Windows screen. Combines the power of a first-class screen capture application with an advanced image editing utility--wrapped into one easy-to-use tool. It's perfect for capturing images that you want to include in your Help system, online tutorials, manuals, training handouts, presentations, marketing materials, Web pages, and e-mails. Use HyperSnap to quickly share a picture-perfect representation of anything on your screen, or copy text from error messages, program screens, system folders etc. HyperSnap is versatile and extremely easy-to-use. You can quickly customize menus and toolbars to fit your needs. Assign your own keyboard shortcuts, create instant toolbars, and even control HyperSnap with voice commands.

Version 6.1 adds tab-delimited data capture (to paste into spreadsheets), new TextSnap settings item on TextSnap menu to allow quick access to the TextSnap tab of Capture Settings; and fixes making TextSnap work under MS Windows Vista Beta 2.

Open, view, interact with, and share reports and dashboards over the Web securely.

    "Screen capture tool + Recognita?"

by GezaGabriel on July 24, 2006

Pros: Adobe PSD, fax, icon and ras support are good extras. With batck processing - check settings - this is a perfect tool for review writers and testers. HyperSnap now come with it's new built-in TextSnap technology - works like recognita but without a scanner :) - will provide valuable datas from programs as well as from any text-based pages. Simple special characters are supported.

This 35$ is a one-time fee and it'll be good for current and next release number for sure (we had 5.x here and v6.x came for free).

If files aren't saved, it'll add a *(star) to it's name at the window title, very neat.

The Shadow and Frame technics are the best for webmesters and for reviewers. Because of these shadow technics (for some images types it can recognise uncommon shapes so those'll have the same shadow as they have /i think this is applied for images with transparency/) every webmester should try this out.

Gray Scale and subtitue colors will be the first help to lower image size, then you may also want to try Color Resolution and Change Resolution. With these tools you can create the smallest images you can ever had with a format.

At About, you should have a look around - unfortunetly, there's no quick tip to start with it... - as you'll get plenty of tutorials for your work.

    Easy to install and use.

Cons: For an unknown reason - or my mind... -, the interface and menu names are not the best i've ever seen, i can't get myself confortable with it. I know that this little toolbar icons are easy to use but they are definetly not beautiful. So i wonder if later HyperSnap can get rollover icon menu (like at Macs) with nice, colorful icons.

I don't really get it why you can only associate only 9 image types to HyperSnap if you can save/open more.

Too bad that the help tutorials aren't illustrated with pictures and the tutorial opening isn't offered at first start.

I hate programs going out without asking permissions!!!

It won't take over other image processing tools' file associations.

Besides all, this is an excellen product and earlier i gave 4 stars only.

    "Useful for a slim minority"

    by running4jesus on August 24, 2006

Pros: Many options, a lot of pre-configured hotkeys, automatically saves, useful for screenshots of games (will do timed screenshots). Useful for people who need nice screenshots of games, mostly.

Cons: I couldn't get it to run in the taskbar and automatically take a capture when I hit printscreen without the program opening up. The nag screen became very annoying very quickly. Also, there are free programs that do similar things, though none that I've used do this much.

    "Very handy screen shot tool"

    by galeC91 on September 22, 2006

Pros: if you are looking for getting the "full picture" (sorry for the pun) this is the software for you.

it is very easy to use and the hot keys make it easy to move and round and get what you need done quickly.

very good and highly recommended... it is bit expensive, but if you use such functionality, it is worth it.
