If Windows' built-in screen-capture abilities satisfy you, you probably haven't tried HyperSnap-DX. With this professional utility, you can capture images you never could have before. For instance, you can grab only a button image, whether active or inactive, with or without the mouse pointer showing. The application also lets you nab stills from a video game while you're playing, or create a how-to slide show by capturing active regions at a constant size. The Capture menu lists all the keyboard shortcuts for available actions, and the help file tells you what those actions do. If you choose the wrong action, the built-in tools let you edit your screengrab. The trial version stamps all images with ads for the software, but you should be able to quickly figure out whether this program is one you want to pay for.
From the developer: New in ver. 4.40.01:- Non-rectangular window capture (e.g. rounded corners of WinXP windows, or arbitrary shape windows, like Media Player in "skin mode").- PNG files now support transparency and interlace attribute.- Saving ICO files now correctly sets transparency mask according to transparency color selected.- Color reduction from true colors to palette, now provides less "reddish" colors.- GIF files can now be saved in any of 1, 2, 3, ... 8 bits per pixel, resulting often in smaller file sizes.
