Version: Hotspot Shield 0.94
"Works, but not with https secure sites"
Pros: It works changes the ip address, the ads are placed above the browser they are not bad. People should understand this software is free.
Cons: I have used this for a while and lately it has issues with https secure sites. Which most sites require to LOGIN into email or even Yahoo, Hotmail or Google. Customer support seems to not respond to emails

Version: Hotspot Shield 0.94
Pros: Masks everything, even when you forget a password and try too many times it remembers your IP. YOu can mask it and try from another IP address. THe ads aren't invasive at all given that this security product is free. There are no Trojans and most virus software don't reveal it that way.
Cons: Don't use it on a corporate Wi-Fi Lan environment as your IP will change and you won't be able to access network resources. No biggy, just turn off, do your thing, and get back on. This is better than Jiwire's given they charge you 30bucks a year

Version: Hotspot Shield 0.94
"great concept, flawed with many ads"
Pros: Works well in public wifi spots, except since your pc is not recognizable it is also not recognized by the network printer nor for retreiving email at AOL internet mail. Disconnect momentarily, and you have these back but you are visible on the wifi. Great idea, much needed, but the non-stop ads caused me to uninstall.
Cons: Ads, ads, unneeded ads! (But no trojan as a previous reviewer wrote). The ads were not minimal but invasive.

Version: Hotspot Shield 0.94
Pros: The only free VPN I'm aware of. Web-based and ridiculously easy to use. No trojans, I'm not sure what the previous reviewer got, but it wasn't from Hotspot Shield. I've seen this software offered through reputable organizations (ABC, Forbes). I don't get any ads; perhaps that was in an older version? The version offered here is old. Go to the company's site (anchorfree.com) to make sure you get the latest release. Whatever you do, DO SOMETHING to secure yourself when using public WiFi. Free or paid, none of it is secure!
Cons: I guess if I saw ads like some others have said, I wouldn't be thrilled. But it's free and you only have to use it away from home, so deal.
