Publisher's Description
From St. Clair Software:
Have you ever tried to find something in your browser history or bookmarks, but couldn't quite remember when or where you saw it? Or perhaps you've got your bookmarks meticulously organized, but it takes forever to mouse through the menus to get to something you want? HistoryHound will chase down the page for you - fast!
HistoryHound lets you quickly search for keywords in the entire content of all web pages and RSS feeds you've visited recently, plus all those that you've bookmarked. It's a "personal web search." Instead of hunting through endless lists of obscure URLs and page titles, just type in a few words that appear anywhere on the page, and even narrow it down to a specific range of dates if you remember when you saw it. HistoryHound will give you a list of matches, ranked by relevance.
HistoryHound currently supports Safari, Firefox, Camino, OmniWeb, Opera, Shiira, Flock, iCab, NetNewsWire and URL Manager Pro.
What's new in this version:
- HistoryHound now indexes .webarchive files.
- A bug that could cause sporadic crashes has been fixed.
- The error log is now saved between launches. It is always truncated to 1000 lines before it is saved.
- Corrected a problem in which filters for file urls would begin with "(null)" if there wasn't a host name in the URL.

"Great alternative to manually searching bookmarks!"
Version: HistoryHound 1.9.9
Pros
Once your history and bookmarks are indexed, it's super-fast. Reduces the need to bookmark everything, since it also indexes your history.
Cons
Because it indexes history, it can get filled up with cruft you don't want. Current version is working good, but past versions have been unstable. Has to be running to be useful -- add as a start up item.
Summary
This thing is great, but sometime I forget I have it for long periods because it get out of my startup items, or they release a buggy version that I disable for a while. But I've been using it since the beginning, and it does something nothing else I've seen does.
Think of it as your own personal Google for ALL sites you've ever visited! But keep in mind, that may include sites that may embarrass you... :-) -
"Not here"
Version: HistoryHound 1.9.6
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I got a copy for free and tossed it out, that's how useless this was. It was a good idea.
The first thing you have to do is go through all your bookmarks and clean house before running this, if you have littlesnitch running, Goodnight Irene. You'll have so many alert windows that you'll think you're playing a shoot-em-up game. After all that's done, it acts as a slow internet browser, and non of the search results were what I was looking for. It's just extra baggage that you don't need.
This is just my experience with it. I won't attack your comments and reviews, so please don't attack mine. -
"cool"
Version: HistoryHound 1.9.2
Summary

A great tool for finding previously visited web pages. Most browsers have history functions that are virtually useless, but HistoryHound works well. I just wish there was an option to turn on indexing when the computer is idle (like Macaroni does for OS X maintenance), since it takes a lot of CPU to perform. Right now, as far as I can tell you can only schedule it for every X minutes. -
"nice app, worth the price?"
Version: HistoryHound 1.9.1
Summary

Well, my trial ran out and I haven't bought it yet. It's a nice little app that does what any browser should be able to do, but for some reason can't (I think OmniWeb is the only exception, does Firefox have an extension for this?). The problem is that most people, including myself, just don't need it very often. That isn't a dealbreaker, of course, I paid for DiskWarrior and don't use it often either, but that serves a critical function when you do. Whereas in this case, if I remember some vague details it's nice to be able to search my history, but I might be able to find it again with Google without much more effort. I don't have a problem with the developer trying to make some cash, I just haven't decided if it's worth my $20 yet -- it's a close call though. -
"support issues resolved"
Version: HistoryHound 1.8
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The developer contacted me directly via iChat and worked it all out. Despite delays caused by being at WWDC, he did respond. For some reason his emails were not getting through. (That's being investigated. :-/
The NNW issue is due to the fact that HH ony indexes NNW stories that are veiwed in the NW builtin browser.
Now that the support issue is resolved, I'll go back to highly recommending this app. I keep it running all the time and find it very useful, and, we now know, supported. -
"History Hound is great!"
Version: HistoryHound 1.6
Summary

I can instantly find a LOST web site based on a couple of words remembered from the text on a page. Terrifc, Fast, and does the job. It's not something you will use everyday, but when you need it, BAM, it does the job. It saves time!! Let's say I saw a kind of Headphones that I liked at a web site several months ago, but can't remember the name of the item or the name of the company. I might have even bookmarked the site, but how am I going to find it unless the site name contains the word luggage.... Type 'Headphones' into History Hound and instantly, all the sites that used that word will appear. Voila! -
"$20 is not so much"
Version: HistoryHound 1.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
HistoryHound may be four times as expensive as Herodotus, but actually I think it is at least four times as good. It has far more sophisticated searching capabilities, is faster, has a better-designed interface, and is in short everything one might expect from the stable of the revered Default Folder. Try it.
It remains to be seen whether I actually use it enogh to be worth registering. -
"Feature suggestion"
Version: HistoryHound 1.0.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
One feature addition that would be very beneficial would be the opportunity to "delete" obsolete or unwanted URL's from Safari (etc.) from the HistoryHound search results list. At the very least, provide the path to folder/directory within Safari where the URL resides so it can manually be changed, modified or deleted. This will add clutter reduction. -
"bought it; reviewed it..."
Version: HistoryHound 1.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
OK, here: I bought it and here's my quick review. It works as advertised. If you have a lot of bookmarks (I have 1452) it will (one-time-only) take several hours to index the text of all those pages (no big surprise there). That done, it resides in the background, and now and then indexes the new pages you've visited.
Finding stuff: it works >great< and darned fast too.
There was once something like this on 9, if my memory serves, and I really liked it. Now it's avaialbe for X. it is a delight to be able to just type in a search term or two and find that page you vaguely remember.
In my case, even though I bookmark, and catagorize conscientiously, 1500 bookmarks are darned hard to look up, much less find a specific item.
This is completely worth the $20.
And to the person who is going to wait for Apple to provide this to him for free... oh hell, that's so... well, that hardly needs a comment...
