Publisher's description of Hide My IP 2009
Conceal your online identity with the click of a button. Surf anonymously, encrypt your Internet traffic, hide your IP while surfing the Internet, using forums, sending E-mails, instant messaging, playing games, and more. Hiding your IP address is as simple as clicking the "Hide My IP" button, which automatically configures your Web browser or other application to use a proxy server from our private proxy network. Change your IP address automatically every few minutes and cloak your browser's User Agent and Referrer headers. Select from hundreds of our private network IPs or public proxies from all over the world. Version 2009 now supports Encrypted Connection Mode, allowing you to encrypt all your Web traffic using secure 128-bit SSL Encryption. Other new features include hotkey support, cookie blocking, IP history, and IP SmartSwitching to randomize your IP addresses.
Version 4.0.12.25645 features more proxy IPs, more locations, encrypted connection mode, keyboard shortcuts, automatic cookie cleaning.

It helps protect your privacy by masking your IP address with an alias, but the demo version's trial restrictions make it hard to test all of this application's functionality.
Hide My IP 2008's initial interface lets you choose how often you want to change your IP address. You also have the options of launching the program at start-up, clearing any cookies once the IP changes, and requesting a U.S. IP. But this is where we encountered the first of many trial restrictions; with the exception of requesting a U.S. IP, the other options are disabled in the demo version. More advanced settings let you choose which Web browser you want to use to enable the program. There is also the choice of where you want the program to locate the alternate IP address. But once again, its not available during the trial. When we clicked the hide IP button, the program quickly changed our IP address. But thanks to those pesky trial restrictions, users are only allowed one alternate IP per trial. There is a sacrifice in surfing speed, and some testers reported that Web browsers ran incredibly slow when using the alias IP.
A Help menu isn't included. Hide My IP 2008 can mask your real IP address, but there's a possible sacrifice in browser speed, and no way to see if the additional settings and features work. We suggest you try other more fully-functional demo versions before making your decision on which one to buy.

Version: Hide My IP 2009 4.0.12.25645
"PURE JUNK. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY"
Pros: NONE. Totally worthless
Cons: It doesn't work
Summary: Previously used Hide My IP 2008. It did work but was VERY slow. Worst than dialup. Because I used it infrequently I put up with it. They offer a premier service for faster speed but want $8.00 a month to use it. Not worth an extra $ 96.00 a year. I... read more >>

Version: Hide My IP 2009 4.0.12.25645
"Demo didn't work at all for me. Had to un-instal."
Pros: Ummm - none
Cons: That's it! It is a con! If you want to see if it works, then you hve to buy the version to see if it works or not
Summary: Based on my experience I won't be recommending it to anyone.
